SO MUCH is lost in translation, however much ppl wana deny that, well i guess they can GO INTO denial but it does not alter the fact that so many words are different/ have more meanings in other languages... as you say
eg i am welsh, ok and one of the 1st prayer i learnt was 'Ysbryd Glan' -- it can translate as 'Pure Spirit' BUT also ''Clean Ghost' and for years when i was a kid, i was afraid of the 'Clean Ghost'
'Hiraeth' is a welsh word, it takes a whole sentence to get the concept across in english - it is much more than home-sickness, it is a yearning... etc etc
So, ye, even tho the Bible says than anyone who translates it wrong will be punished ------- they HAVE translated it wrong ........ who knows if they were punished or not? Personally, I believe if it was a genuine mistake, they were forgiven... but that is a matter of FAITH

We still have the original texts you know... You can go to http://powerBible.com to download their free software, which has an interlinear tool to let you see the original Greek/Hebrew words which are being translated, as well as their definitions according to Strong's, widely considered the best dictionary for Greek/Hebrew translations.
Today we can look at the original text. Some like my pastor read Greek and can translate it themselves. I myself know the Greek and Hebrew alphabets and have a friend who can read Greek.
Unlike the Bible, Islam's "scriptures" all came from one man, rather then many witnesses. And unlike the Bible, Mohammed spends half his time talking about how great and exalted he is, as opposed to the Bible writers who constantly admit their faults, honoring God alone.
Furthermore, the Bible has more bibliographical backing then any other document in history. The Iliad is 2nd in manuscript authority (which is 1 of 3 proofs applied to historical documents, and measures how many reliable manuscripts of the originals we have and how long after the original was written is the last perfectly accurate copy) with 643 to the New Testament. The New Testament has over 20,000 manuscripts that are 99.5% accurate word for word to one another with the latest accurate copies being nearly 2000 years later.
In cases where the Bible's credibility was questioned, archeology has time and again verified the Bible's attention to details. For a good site on this go to http://Christiananswers.net/archeology
There is also the fact that Jewish scholars who reject the New Testament have still acknowledged as Messianic prophecies some 400 or so prophecies applying to Jesus in Edersheim's Appendix, making their fulfilment in Him perfectly valid.

I think the bible was thrown together to fit the political agenda of the times by the council of Nicene or whatever that council was they left out a lot of books that are just as relevant. The way Hebrew was spoken the actual words had many different meanings depending on context. Whole phrases like "blind made to see" were not intended to be taken literal. God himself never put pen to paper its all written by man.

God did not write the Bible. It is not assumed that one "Power" or deity wrote anything. Men wrote the various books in the Bible, and the many translations do cause original meanings to be lost, forcing scholars to work backwards to find what they are looking for.

Dead sea scrolls are from long time before Jesus was born and there are no differences between those and todays Bible. The letters written after Jesuses death were written within couple years after his death. There is many things that point towards their authenticity. For a quick read try Lee Strobels Case for Christ, an interesting book and an easy read.

it very simpl really... for thousands of years, the bible is written, and compiled and circulated.. before christ, it has been greatly protected by the jewish nation, for all its wrongs are very good at protecting it from being corrupted...
then, the bible is almost destroyed by the Catholic church in the dark ages... but for the waldenseans and many other faithful people...
of course then satan would have it marred and corrupted.. and many translations are indeed translated in the translator's understanding...
but there is one thing you forgot.. that is the power of God...
if by using a corrupted bible martin luther discovered light on justification by faith, what have we to fear that God will surely reveal His word to those that seek?.. the problem, then is not weather or not the bible you hold in your hand has single word errors but rather do you seek truth in full meekness and thirst after the fountains of life...
Trust God, for He is able to protect His words today as He has in many centuries past...

read carefully. the bible was not written by God. Neither was the kuran It was written by men who wrote what they thought god wanted to say. Most of the bible was written in greek and ancient latin and has been translated numerous times. The torah is still written in ancient hebrew, and copied by hand. It is probably the most faithful of all the holy books

Yah... the bible was writen by several several diffrent people.... then traslated a few times....
There is no way to know if ANY of the orginal writers where acutaly told to write it by god or not..... and then there is no way to know or not if any of the translations where curpted for there own means (wich there is acutal proof that this is provable in fact).

All you need to do is study Hebrew and Greek at the university
level for ten or more years, and you can produce your own
translation, with much prayer of course.
I Corinthians 13;8a, Love never fails.
