Yes it does say both...and yet both are true. When ever anyone was dealing with God on the earth or in a vision..they were dealing with Christ, Jesus (Yeshua) to be exact. The Holy Father of God, YHWH, or "GOD" the Father, Abba has never been seen by anyone..except Christ. At least not His face.God the Father has spoken to many people..especially in prophecy..but no man has ever visited His person...save the Son, who rules at His right hand. The Holy Spirit is now our conveyance. The KJV while being the most accurate translation still holds with the Jewish tradition of leaving the "name" of God un-uttered and un-written in many cases in copiest style. In doing so the term "Lord" and "God" are used. However, its wise not to pull a verse out of context and imply impropriety without further study.

For instance in the Book of Mark 9
2And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

In this transfiguration Jesus is seen in heaven talking with Moses and Elijah...neither of which have been resurrected yet though it is thought that Elijah was raptured. So it is a vision of Jesus as He is in Heaven and has been discribed in other scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. Read the whole chapter.

Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Ex 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Jesus the Son of Man pre-existed as God before His birth on the earth. Through Him all things were made and for Him all things were made. He was about His Fathers business in the old testament as well as the new so...whenever you might think to suspect that the Bible is inconsistant or contradicts..you would do well to study its entirety for much can missed if you don't. I can't find much to describe a face, but here are a few interesting verses: Duet. 13:17, Ex. 33:23, Ps. 18:7-8.

You didn't finish quoting John 1:18:

No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father's side, has revealed him.

Whoever has seen me has seen the Father, John 14:9

So have you seen Jesus? If so, you have seen God.

That's a very good question. :)

Anyway, if someone here tell you they seen the face of God they must be loosing their mind. Its Perspective illusion or something.

Well I guess we have a contradiction here in the old Bible. You think god could get all his word to flow properly.

believers already saw the face of god in different forms and atheists question the very existence of god so for them the answer is no

Normally you would die when seeing the face of God.

Some of them are visions of seeing God. Some are metaphors.

Some is just contradictory like everything else!

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) saw God. But we don't know if you should refer it as 'face'. We don't know the physics of God and neither did the prophet revealed it to us.
