Idiot is a word that refers to the id, which is the id-entity of a person.
An idiot is therefore someone that is not able to see beyond himself and his circumstances. For this reason such person is not able to efficiently confront any situation that is not like the ones he knows, or believes everybody will perceive things exactly the way he does and does not accept, nor understand other perspectives.
This word is conceptually associated to stupid.
Stupid is a word related to stupor, or sleepiness. And we all know that while we are sleeping we see nothing but our own inner world.
If you understand this, you are not an idiot.
Although you might just be trying to be.
