No, you're not a hypocrite and you certainly don't have to stay home, child. God wants people to have fun and to be joyous. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord". I always did like that verse. Some people want to take all the fun out of life. Life isn't solemn nor does it stand still. You go and dance as much as you like (don't wear yourself out) and allow her her thoughts in solemnity.

Whoever told that to you is a legalism Christian. We aren't under the law any more, we are under grace. We are supposed to be Christ's representatives here on earth and you must judge for yourself whether or not your being a real witness when you go out dancing. Dancing itself is not a sin anyway, King David loved to dance before the Lord. The Psalms are full of verses stating for us to dance before the Lord too.
BUT and this is a big but, are you going to clubs and trying to pick up guys? If so, be very careful because that CAN lead into great sin.

So far, nobody has addressed what a hypocrite is. Jesus gave us an example when He called the pharisees (religeous leaders) hypocrites because they were professing to be righteous, but were inwardly wicked.
I am going to have to disagree with the others who have responded; from what you have written, I belive that your friend was right. And just because the others who have responded do what you do doesn't make it right.
Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. Your temple should be kept clean and pure, but we know that alcoholand tobacco defile the body. We are told to separate from Babylon (Biblical symbol for sin) and not to "partake of her sins." He also said "avoid the appearence of evil." If we are doing the same things as sinners, what is the difference between them and christians? God has called us to separate from the rest of the world. He wants a "peculiar people" and a "holy priesthood." We can not be peculiar (different) if we are acting just like sinners, and we can't be holy when we defile ourselves. (Read about the sons of Aaron in Leviticus 10, they had gotten drunk and God killed them.)
We also have to remember that God's "chosen" people were partying when Moses came down from the mountain with the ten commandments. He threw down the tablets which were broken, and then the Levites were commanded to kill all who were actively partying. I don't think that God was pleased with them, and I don't think that God is happy when we do the same thing today.
The Bible mentions other parties too. The birthday party for Herod when he had John the Baptist killed. And the Babylonians were partying when the Medo-Persians conquered them.
For a coment by "Private Eye Sees Ya", Paul did not say that we can do whatever we want. "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." (Rom 3:31)
He is asking if it is OK to sin becaise we have faith, and the answer is NO WAY. "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Rom 6:1-2) And here he asks if it is OK to sin so that we can have more grace, and the answer is the same, NO. "What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid." (Rom 6:15) Think about it.
The others are right, God wants us to make a joyful noise, but you don't have to party to do it. I don't think that God would be pleased with what passes for music in the clubs. Music should be sweet and harmonious. It is possible to be happy and joyful without going to the clubs, but you don't have to stay home either.
I don't think that God likes the way that we party on this earth, but I know that He wants to be happy. True happiness comes only from God, not from getting drunk or having sex outside of marriage. Enjoy life in its simplicity and purity, and avoid the defilements of the world.
Instead of settling with the answers that you get here, pray and ask God to show you if it is wrong to party.

No. Any true Christian should know we're not saved by OUR goodness but by Jesus' goodness. We can't EARN our way to Heaven (Galatians 2:16) but only Jesus can save us.
1 Corinthians 6:18-19 shows the only physical sin against our bodies the temples of the Holy Ghost is fornication, or sexual sin.
I can't imagine why dancing or going out would be considered a sin. And if so, this is what the Bible says about your friend's judging:
Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
All Romans 14 is good. We are also not supposed to confront other Christians save with humility and meekness as a brother or sister, in love.

No. Self righteous Christians, and sinners will always have something to say. You can sip your wine, and have fun, dance, and enjoy your life. God says this in the bible. Yes, praise him and worship him, and if he wants you to change, you will. Being born again Christrian, and being holy spirit filled, will change you...for the better over time, not instantly. Don't ignore it completely, but don't let it overcome you. Enjoy and don't forget to tell anybody and everybody about the Lord.
Remember, Paul says, you can do whatever you want, because you have been forgiven, but everything is not good for you.
You should watch and do what you say in front of those who are not Christrian, because they will judge you always.

That doesn't make you a hypocrite - and yet, we're all hypocrites when you get right down to the nitty gritty of it all - however, who is she to judge, that makes her a hypocrite to - so usually when people tell me I'm a hypocrite, I say I know that I am - I'm the kind of people Jesus came for not the self-rigteous. Paul did tell us that if our actions were offensive to others and caused them to stray, then we should consider our actions. Hope this helps you understand that when it boils down to it, it is a matter between the Holy Spirit convicting you of your desire to dance and be out socially - depending on the type of sociality you're talking about and if you're reflecting in your life what Christ would be.

Being a Christian doesn't mean that you have to stay at home, but it also doesn't mean that you go out and get wasted (if that is what you are meaning going out as). Also people who are not Christians see other Christians doing something that they do not consider to be Christian and instantly assume that they are hypocrits. But I think that they should also realized that being a Christian doesn't mean that you do not struggle daily to live a Christian life.

No you are not a hypocrite.. Some believe that you can't dance .As long as you are right with your God then that is all that counts. Remember it states in the Bible man should not judge one other, That is Gods job. We should be busy looking into our own life and let others look deep within themselves.. You are your own judge on weather you are right with God

You're not a hypocrite! You live in the real world. It's OK to love God and be religious. I am and I also love to go out, dance, drink, party, etc. Some people are just silly. Ignore them and believe in your faith.
