Oh I'm really sorry to hear that your kitten ran away. Was it an outdoor cat, or did you always keep him/her indoors?
The good news is that if he/she was an outdoor cat, he/she'll probably find his/her way back home! Cats seem to have a sixth sense about that :).
The bad news is, indoor cats don't usually have this so-called sixth sense. Nine months isn't very old, and I doubt he/she could have gone far. I recommend you make "MISSING" signs and notify your neighbors that your cat is missing so they can keep an eye out for you, and just keep your head up and your eyes open.
I sincerely hope that you find your kitten :). Good luck.

Did you know that 50% of all domestic cats have a "homing device" a natural sense of direction and 50% don't. As you know cats bolt first, look later when they are frightened, if your cat happens to be a "have not" and he is frightened out of his territory, he won't be able to find his way home. As well you cut your baby's life span in half just by simply letting him outside. Also keep in mind there are preditory animals your neighborhood too. Like owls. Coyotes. It is a good idea to teach your cat a curfew and bring him in at night.

hopefully its a smart cat like mine, my tigger ran away for over 3 months, no joke, I thought something awful had happened then he returned 1 morning 3 months and 2 days later, so don't give up just yet, though hope there are no roads close by, my cat was older and knew the road well... hope it comes back for you... have you been looking, ring the local council pound, ring local vets too in case someone has found it???

How long has he/she been gone? Has he/she been living at the current location for a long time? Is he/she been spayed or neutered?
If the kitty's been at that place for a while, he/she has accepted it as home and will come back as long as he/she knows there is food. If cats aren't fixed, they will roam more frequently and further, looking for a mate. Altering will solve this problem. It is also great if they can be indoor cats.

In my experience, yes, assuming they know their way home. If your kitten does not have a good sense of the area it is still possible but it couldn't hurt for you to go out and try to find it. Good luck, hope your kitten finds its way home soon!

I have some good news for you. If your cat can avoid being run over, eaten by a raccoon or dog, or abducted by a friendly stranger or the pound, it will most likely find its way home. Cats have an amazing ability to find you.

Hate to say this but is your cat spayed or neutered? I hope so. It may have got scared by something and is just laying low until he/she thinks the coast is clear! Might just be exploring the territory.

Depends. You should have a microchip in them and you can tell where they are. And if they really trust you (i think) then they'll come back. If they've been with you a long time, they'll most likely come back home I think.
