Indeed. We are told to search the Scriptures as you say. And secondly, we are told that they do not hold eternal life, for religion can not save us. Rather, the Christian religion says no religion can save a person, but rather Jesus Christ alone. The claim for exclusive salvation lies in Him alone, not in being a good person or finding some special truth.

I think that if you are really a christian then you know that you are for sure going to heaven. You should not doubt that you are going to heaven. Some christians just believe what they are taught rather than search the sciptures theirselves because they tend to doubt God. In what ever situation they are in sometimes some christians tend to forget how they themselves get to be where they are today. I think they should just trust in God and he will answer your prayers and get you through any situation you are going through.

Very good point. I have been aware of this scripture for years as I do search, study, read and do the math in bible study daily. I do not take any ones word for any thing.
I do as 2Tim.2:15; Study and rightly divide the truth.
Thousands are for the new heavens and billions are for the new earth, do not know who came up with everybody is going to heaven and whatever their version of hell is.

I believe what I was taught and what I was taught is out of the Bible. We were constantly opening our Bibles to reference what the teachers were saying. I am a Lutheran. If a teacher had an opinion, they could voice that as well, but the Word of God is truly the story of Law and Gospel. We're sinners, we need Christ. Live to love and spread that truth. As for that passage it seems pretty clear to me that the Jewish teachers in that situation thought by their adherence to their Torah, or the old testament would save them, while it's clear througout that the Lamb of God is, was, and will always be Jesus Christ.

Your taking this verse out of context. What Christ is saying here He's saying to the Pharisees. The Pharisees didn't interpret scripture or else they would have realized that they DID indeed point to Christ Jesus. Yes, many Chrisitans today focus more on the Bible then they do Jesus Himself. But sacred scripture is what we turn to in order to learn more about who Jesus is and how He taught us what to do and know. I search the Scriptures on a daily basis because I know that sometimes Christ talks to me through them. I guess what I'm saying is that it's more important to KNOW Jesus the Lord personally then to know ABOUT Him.

You have to for one...see who Jesus is speaking to... He was speaking to the Jews who were of the religious order ...
In the prior verse..John 5:38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
That being the case He was telling them to search the scriptures...The Old testament...because in them they think they have eternal life...but what they don't know is Jesus is the promise of eternal life and the old testament testifies of him..but the law was never designed to give you eternal life...it was designed to let you know sin existed......Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
So they..the Jews who were not followers of Christ ..think..there is eternal life..in the law......Not all Christians...you see we don't just think we do ..we know we do..BY His promise...continue reading till the end of the chapter brother...you will see Jesus is not talking to believers...God bless

I can only assume from your typing and spelling skills you do not think for yourself either. You might want to hold on to them rocks as you live in your glass house.I am quite sure when you say most Christians you really do not mean this.I find it so hard to believe you have talked with even one hundredth of one percent of all the Christians in this fine world we live in , where we do not make rash judgments based on our limited information gathered from talking to such a limited few.

Think! Now that is a good word.
Apparently you ditched that class and received a "failed" mark on your grade card for that class..
Your trite questions are living proof that you don't understand the word Think.
I didn't figure that you would understand the meaning, so I looked up the definition of trite for you. See Below.

Answer me this first, and then I'll answer you. What do you think of this Scripture?
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 3:3-8

If you are living your life, having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, and trying to follow his teaching and his ways, which he clearly wanted people to do, what else can you be other than a CHRISTian?
