I am living in Switzerland - and I've got some difficulties to answer your question.

It really depends on the standard you expect as well as the area you'd like to stay or travel around.

Hotel prices for a double room including breakfest would be in a range of about 120 up to 800 Swiss Francs a night (or 100 to 670 Dollars) - considering the standard offers without any extremes like suites or backpackers.

Going out is rather expensive - you will be able to eat a pizza for about 20 Francs, but going to a higher standard restaurant will easily cost you 60 Francs with a starter (all per person), but without wine, which would be charge at another 6 Francs per glass. It's not allowed to bring in own wine or other drinks.

Supermarkets will charge the same prices throughout the country, but agricultural products (specially meat and dairy) will seem very expensive to you.

Don't forget the costs of transport, trains and car rentals are both expensive.

As a whole, Switzerland is probably the most expensive country in the world - only some global cities like London or Tokio have a higher price level.

It's depened on when you go to switzerland. The first time I went to Switzerland is in May. It's still low season so the hostel doesn't cost much. Ok, I stay in the hostel and not hotel as hotel is too expensive and hostel is not bad at all. In the hostel, it only costs CHF19 per night per bed. And I didn't go to restrauant everyday. Most of the time, I will go to supermarket to buy breakfast, lunch and dinner such as bread and saugages and some cheese. itt's cheap and a lot of choices. (remember, the supermarket in switzerland close around 4:30 to 5pm and they close on Sunday. So, if you depend on the supermarket, please check their opening hours).

And then I bought Swiss pass. You can check in www.myswitzerland.com. You can use swiss pass to take trains, trams and bus unlimited times and no matter how far you go to (P.S. but it doesn't include cable car and certain trains/trams to mountains)

So, totally, I spent HKD15k (included the air ticket from HK to Switzerland) for one month in switzerland from 2 May to 24 May in 2004. I think it's worth and it's beautiful. Have fun!
