Ok here goes. one gallon US (the UK measurements are very close, but just a little different) consists of 4 (four) quarts. Each quart is one quarter of a gallon, hence the name. Each quart consists of 2 (two) pints. Each pint consists of two cups, Each cup consists of 8 (eight) fluid ounces.
It is important to know that in this measurement system, fluid ounces have NOTHING at all to do with weight, as it does in the metric system, where one liter of water weighs one kilogram.
So it comes out like this:
8 fl.oz. = one cup (cu.)
2 cups = one pint (pt.)
2 pints = one quart (qt.)
4 quarts = one gallon (gl)
1.gallon = 3.87 liters
