A hospital cannot be kept sterile...too many variables...but it is kept as clean as possible. I never worried about contracting a deadly infection...even though I worked ER and accidental needle sticks could pose a terrible risk. I just followed all the rules and adhered to good handwashing techiques and trusted that it would be enough to keep me safe.

Being honest, I was always so concerned about helping others that I never thought or dwelt on the risks. That doesn't mean I wasn't aware of them, I was...I just didn't let them interfere with my patient care.

Well I'm a nursing student and we were advised that it is personal preference if we wanted to glove for client care. Some care its mandatory but not for all. During practical I always gloved. Sterile depends on the area of the hospital in question i guess. Medical asepsis always applies but surgical would be in the OR.

Well nurses in hospitals need to follow strict practices while handling infectious materials..if they work as per the standard instruction and protective clothing with proper care i really dont think they should get infected with any infectious agent

I worked in a group home, not a nurse, but might as well have been. We followed universal precautions, that is everyone is treated like they are infectious. Yes, I worried, but if you do your job exactly like you are supposed to u will be fine.

I don't worry because we have very strict guidelines that if are followed minimize our risks...the reward of saving a life far outweighs the risk of getting any infection as long as proper procedures are adhered to.
