Only you know what is going on in your personal life --- deal with conflicts openly and honestly --- get someone you can talk to .
Reframe from violent, gory movies or books that contain such topics. After you awake - tell yourself it's only a bad dream --- have some positive things in your room that you can read and reflect --- even soothing music..... also talk to your doctor --- have a physical --- in some cases a problem with hypertension can cause some people to have nightmares (it's rare but possible) - if you take meds. make sure they are the right dosage and taken at proper time. Watch your eating habits --- high salt and sugar levels can work against you as well... don't eat too late at night --- and do you have a good self image?

I don't have too many nightmares, I can go a long time without haveing dreams too, that only means I'm not getting good\long enough sleep. I've had some strange dreams that make no sence, sometimes thinking about the dream I can relate it to a t.v. show or movie I was watching the night before, sometimes my dreams are dejavou (think thats right?), that's where things get scary, I try not to think about dreams too much but my only advice is to try to stay off the meds.

Try this coz it had worked good for a lot of people. Before you sleep sit calmly on ur bed and think about the most happiest and beautiful moment in that day(if the day was a hassle try any moments) and appreciate yourselves that you can make others feel happy. And finally sleep in the North--South direction(Head North and legs South)

Seriously - Dreams/nightmares are not real. Think of them as being no more than a scary movie. Take some time and explore them in your memory... get to know the various aspects so you know and are familiar with each aspect. Once you know and understand something, it is a lot less frightening.

Put yourself in command of your dreams. They are yours... you own them!

Don't go to sleep with a full stomach.
That really makes the brain work overtime while you're digesting in your sleep.

Try the "lucid dreaming" technique; wherin you train yourself to realize that you are dreaming, and are then able to change the dream elements to suit you.
