There could be so many reasons.
For working women, it could just be convenience to manage quickly their hair on daily basis.
For many others, just because they don't have good hair so they cut them.
Some may be doing doing just to change styles, after all it is own crop and can be grown any time later.
Some may have medical reasons.

some like short hair,, i personally like long hair.. i have heard that long hair does not look good on women of my age but i just wish it would grow longer.. i got tired of the women that complained to me about everything i did and now i stay away from her,, it is a persons own choice if they keep their hair long or short.. i think some people go to extreme with purple hair or shaving their heads but again that is my opinion..i guess probably some younger girls do things to show off but i do not think they do things to show off at age 53... but who knows anymore what is going on in womens minds and especially mens minds...

Depends how short. I've met quite a good number of females who cut their hair when they're either pregnant or recently divorced, perhaps it's just symbolic of a new change in their life?

One reason could be rebelling against a religeon that forbade the women to cut their hair

Sometimes people get sick of feeling and looking the same. Also, some women donate their hair to make wigs for cancer patients.

They cut it when they feel that men do not like them enough. Unfortunately after that men like them even less.

umm, women cut their hair cause its either ugly long or cause they want to...
I have long hair, wouldn't cut it...what the heck does it matter either way lol

uh, hello. duh they have to cut their hair eventually. or they're going to have VERY unhealthy hair, which would look wayy unpleasant. now go get urself a freakin life and stop asking questions that dont even make any sense.
