someone who is not a christian at birth (w/o chrisitian parents), then as that person gets older, he converts to christianity by getting a baptism. Then the person is considered a born again christian.

First, whoever did the Chick Tract link, Shame on you! Jack T. Chick is a liar and a deceiver! Secondly, "Born again" is a fundamentalist term which means either you are baptized when you reach the age of 13 or 14 and accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior. What the Bible says is that you must be born of "water and Spirit", therefore it must be baptism.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
This is a person who has had a spiritual encounter with Christ. They have had a inner change that was done by God himself.

Well we are all born into sin and we are away from God from the start. That's why God gives us so many chances to repent and accept Jesus in our lives (either through being born into a Christian family where they can influence you to become a follower of Christ, or accepting Jesus through your own terms). So the reason why it is called born again Christian, is becuz through accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are renewed in Spirit, through the Holy Spirit. Everything in the past has been washed away just like new. Like it never happen, so you are a new person in Christ Jesus.

every person on this earth is born with a physical body and a soul. The physical body is born and is alive. But the soul is separated from God because of original sin and is dead. Only the blood of Jesus Christ can bring that soul back to life. It's a spiritual re-birth.

A true born again Christian is , one who has been saved by the Grace of God through Faith. When God saves you, he makes you a new person. You no longer enjoy sin, or being around it. You want to tell others about Jesus, and how to be saved. You live your life apart from this world. You have a desire to serve the Lord. You seek God for the will of your life. You Pray, you go to church. You read your Bible. When God saved me, He put a new song in my heart. He gave me something to live for. Jesus is my everything.

This idea was presented to Nichodemus by Jesus to explain how someone could have eternal life. Jesus used the analogy of the natural birth to explain how a spiritual birth takes place. He said, "if you don't understand earthly things, how can you understand heavenly things." He went on to explain that it is our spirit that is born again and that is the part of our being which recieves eternal life and can never sin.

John 3
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.[a]"
4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You[c] must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
9"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
10"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? 11I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[d] 14Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.[e]

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
The word "again" (anothen) in Greek means "from above", so born from above.
John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
We all are born of the flesh and water, the womb. You must be born from above or the Spirit. God's Word is His Spirit. I pray that helps you. Sow to your spirit by studying His Word which is God's Spirit.
KEEP MY WORDS
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
NOTICE; WE will come, make OUR abode with him.
