I had a female and a male Lhasa and both were good with older children. The male does like to mark his territory even after he has been neutered. I would not recommend this breed for very young children because Lhasas don't like the ear pulling and tail pulling of young children. They also don't care for the crying of a youngster or the quickness that the younger ones can be. Have you thought of another breed. I have just the right one for you, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are great with adults and they love kids. We have a male and a female now and wish we had had them much sooner. You couldn't find a better breed. They are so loving, couch potatoes and love to sit in laps. They love to play with children, even the very young ones. We have small grands, one is only 1 1/2 and both our pooches just love him. Just Google Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and you will get loads of websites to look at. They will show you pictures of the breed and some will tell the history of the breed. Good luck

My brother has a Lhasa Apso, and it is the most energetic, good natured dog I've ever met. He does like to chew on things sometimes, but that is just because he likes to play. We took him to a family gathering recently and he got along with everyone even though he had never met these people before.

I have a dog that is a Lhasa Apso mix. He can be territorial about my mom, my house and his chew toys, but otherwise is friendly.

My moms dog was a Lhasa and was very snippy. When asked about the dog by breeders they said they are all that way. Because they are territorial

They are known to be short tempered with children. A shih tzu is a very similar dog, but better with children.
Of course, there are exceptions to every rule.

they can be if introduced at an early age (the dog)-please be careful of very young children as they will startle a young dog or puppy.lhasas actually tend to bond with one person and keep with the sex of that person -ladies to girls, men to boys. they will also defend against the other sex almost always.
