We have two cats, male and female. They have been in the family since they were 8 weeks old. They are now 8 years old (July 29). We brought them over from the UK to Australia. We refused point blank to leave them behind. The love they show towards us is unbelievable and whenever they are sick, it seems like we are looking after another child.
Yesterday I had to take her to the vets as I thought that she had a nerve disorder (the second in three months). With this one of her legs go lame. In March, it was her front right leg and yesterday it was her back right leg. I was so fearful that the vet would tell us she was not goin to make a full recovery and would be better off being put to sleep.
Animals of any kind are part of the family and should be treated as such. I hope that you do somehing nice by laying it to rest somewhere. You need to do this as a send off, you can say how much you loved him then.
Something else that you could do is make a memorial by adding a picture and a little epitaph under. You can then frame it.

It's so hard to lose a pet. Know that you did the right thing and didn't let your pet suffer. Cats are very smart I'm sure he knew you loved him. You gave him the best life he could have you should be proud. Think of the kittens that mean people drowned or got rid of at the side of the road. Instead you have pride that you gave him a wonderful life compared to most cats. I always think of my pets waiting for me in heaven. Heaven is what makes us happy and I know my pets are there. Thats how I look at it. Hugs.

Absolutley. Your cat knew he was loved. You gave him a great life. Some people think that animals are dumb and they do not feel. That is crap. Animals are very smart and they know their owners. It is a very sad time in a persons life when they have to make that awful decision to put their animal down. I have been through it too much. I have always treated my animals as if they were my children. I am sure your cat is watching you from above. He definately knew he was loved very much. I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss -- yes, cats do know we love them. Biologically, they have a lymbic system (center of emotions) in their brains just like humans. Spiritually, cats are very sensitive animals who can feel our love and return it also. Caring for a diabetic cat must have been a challenge, and I'm sure she appreciated your love in taking on a "special needs" animal and giving her a loving, caring home and good companionship. I perosnally believe animals have souls and go to heaven (after all, there were animals in Eden, which is the Jewish metaphor for heaven -- I'm Jewish.) I think they will all be there to greet us when we pass over. And I think their souls hang around to visit us now and then here on earth, too. I sometime sense the presence of my old sheepdog, Grett, who passed away last summer. He was 18 years old and I had to have him put down because he could not walk anymore and was in a lot of pain. He was an outdoor dog and was gone 3 days durting a long rainstorm so I though he had died out in the woods. But he wasn't dead -- just paralyzed from a stroke or something. He dragged himself home to die with me. If that's not love, what is? I held his head in my arms while the vet gave him the shot and he went peacefully. And I think his spirit still walks in the fileds here.

Animals definately know we love them because we take care of them, show affection and 'communicate' with them as best we can. You cat knows you did the best thing for him, you were not selfish and did not want him to suffer.

I believe we will see our animals in heaven, after all, God loves animals too so why wouldn't He allow us to be with them again?

I have had strong bonds with my cats, one in particular, was extra special. I had to put him down 2 years ago, he was 17 and my little boy. I promised him I would not let him suffer when the time came and he let me know. It was good because I made an appointment for the vet to come to my home (so he would not be scared) and that gave me a couple of days to stay up with him and hold him and think about the 17 years we had together. He kept looking at me like he understood. I burried him with a poem, a lock of my hair and some of my other cats hair, his favorite food and his toy from when he was a baby. I burried him outside my bedroom door, close to me.

Sorry for your loss. i persaonlly think animals know how much we love them or they wouldn't love us so much in return. If you were close to your pet (which I can tell you were) then your pet responded to you in a positive way all the time. Your pet loved you! You took such good care of it and when it came to the end you were right there and did the right thing so your pet wouldn't suffer. I'm proud of yuo and know ho wit hurts. I lost 3 cats last year to old age & they were so close they all died within a few days of eachother. I was crushed. But thank goodness my youngest is OK and loves me too. Hope this helps and take care.

RainbowsBridge.com
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I want you to know that I am one of the many people that bring animals to this Bridge. It is a very hard decision to have your animal put to sleep. Part of my job is to euthanize animals. It is tough and I dont really know the animal like the owner does. There is one thing that I know for sure. Heaven isnt just for humans and yes animals know when they are loved. You can see it in their eyes. I am so sorry for your loss. Good Luck

You did the right thing, You're cat was suffering and he knew you loved him. When you feel better, think about getting another one from the humane society or SPCA. I'm really sorry for your loss. Animals are your children.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I had a siamese that had to be put down due to health problems and I grew up with him. He knew very well that we all loved him. And he loved us back. Animals are pretty smart and they know a lot more than people seem to give them credit for. You're little guy knew he was loved and he'll be with you always. I know....Brandi's still with me in ways. Hope this helps you.

**uber hugs to you**
