My cat seems to play with toys and will ignore for weeks and then go back and play. ANY toy you use should be safe enough for the cat and U to eat. Silly string is dangerous. Google safe cat toys if you need suggestions or go to a local pet store.

Get some yarn and tie it to your finger, and drag it behind you while your cat chases your around the house. If your cat is home alone during the day, leave the blinds open so she can see out of the window. The birds and the outside commotion will be quite entertaining for her. Purchase a cat climber (looks like a tree) for her to climb up during the day, and maybe leave a few cat treats at the top as a reward. Cat's also love clean water, and a free flowing water bowl will also be quite entertaining for your cat. Cat's sleep a lot during the day, but a few adjustments like these will undoubtedly keep her busy and more importantly entertained.

If your cat is telling you that she's bored with her toys, by all means try string. : ) I usually tie something fuzzy (like a furry mouse toy) to a doorknob and let it dangle. My cats have hours of fun with this.

No no no! She could try to eat that and it would likely be toxic! Stick to cat toys and maybe simple things like pieces of real string and crumpled pieces of paper.

Get a laser pointer and the cat'll chase it for a bit. The cat is kept busy and you can have the cat smash into ****! It's great fun all around!

My cat tends to ignore most toys. She does like it if I cut a simple piece of twine and dangle it in front of her, she'll play with it for hours and chews it up when I'm not playing with her. She also likes to play on the bed when I'm making it, and I put the blanket right on top of her. Then she burrows around in it for a while. But store bought toys she seems to realize are meant for her to play with, and on that basis alone, she ignores them. ;)

my cat got bored so I got a big feather from a craft store, brown in color, tied it to a string, and put rocks in an old sock, tied it up, and tied that to the feather-string combo. My kitty LOVED it.

Silly string sounds pretty dangerous, and since it shoots so fast it might just scare her. How did she let you know? Did she chuck them out the window?

I second Ophelia's answer. My cat loves chasing the red dot of a laser light.
