Yeah. If you've only got one parent left, you might as well listen to them.

Is this a real situation? If so, I am so sorry for you. Really. I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry that your father is in such a tight situation, and I'm sorry that you're in the middle of it.

The funeral is for the people who are left behind to grieve and have a little closure about the person who died. In other words, the funeral is for you. I think you should decide whether to go to the funeral on whether you want to or not.

I heard a situation on the radio the other day where a girl whose older brother had been adopted away from the family wanted to invite him to her wedding, but the father of the kids didn't want her to invite him. She called Dr. Laura to ask her if she should invite her brother or not, since her father didn't want her to. Dr. Laura pointed out that "honoring your father and mother" doesn't mean just doing whatever they want; it means helping them to do what's right. So I would say, if you feel that your dad is asking you to do something that's not right, you don't have to do it.

I am surprised your dad would even ask this of you unless he is a known manipulator. Never ever should you miss your mother's funeral. Even if you didn't get along or had issues. You would never forgive yourself. And you would blame him for making you. I know. It is more important than you can imagine.

Never!! I don't care who asks.

If I don't make my mom's funeral it's because I'm at my own funeral!

No way. I dont care what the circumstances were. Your mom is your mom, same as your dad is your dad. Plus you got to think why does he not want you to go.

No. Your mom is your mom. I am not telling you to accuse your dad of anything, just tell him, "is my mom funeral, this isn't about you".
