What is the reason for all the panic and worry? Why are scientists pushing this theory if it's not real?

'artman59' -- please stop pretending you know anything about halogenic hydrocarbons (1,1,1-Trichloroethane). Your argument makes no sense whatever. Yes, 'trich' was a component of Mustard Gas used by the Germans. Trich used in industry is in the form of a liquid that is boiled and used as an industrial degreaser for auto and airplane parts. There is a certain amount of boil-off that can easily be captured by the right venting system and disposed of fairly easily and economically. CFC's however were in many different products used by consumers as well as industry. Removing around 80% of the CFC's being used worldwide has made the problem manageable once again. There are a number of countries still using such chemicals. The fact is that replacing trich in industry was fairly expensive to do but it was done, and it has made a difference.

Well, the fact is that there are really only a handful of people qualified to discern what is what, and the vast majority of them believe from research and evidence and ice and soil cores, etc., etc.. ad infinitum, that there is going to be hell to pay because of our actions. They know that there is a sharp upward trend that starts roughly 30 years ago and shows no abating. On the other hand, there are those in power, who are supposed to protect us and listen to advice (at least once per lifetime) and do the right thing, instead (one would presume) of sending our boys to be slaughtered in an illegal war that only serves the needs of a (soon to be even richer) few. Bush and his cronies have done everything imaginable to try and hide these facts. They've defaced EPA literature and websites just so nobody can read what is almost certain, and do the logical thing... blame the government for not doing something positive (in the direction away from oil consumption). But no... apparently, their job is to produce their own "experts" who (coincidentally) used to work for Big Oil, but now only have your welfare on their minds. Pah... what a joke.

Just like so many Right-Wing lies that emanate from the Echo Chamber (repeat it often enough and some people will believe even the most obvious lie) this one has its roots in (dirty) money. Of course there is no need to create a hoax regarding some fictitious event. That's just stupid. These scientists have plenty of other work to be getting on with. I never heard of a BSc in "Global Warming" before, there are a million other things these geologists could be doing (and getting paid for).

Of course, nobody here is old enough to remember the debates that took place when the theory of Tectonic Shift was being ridden rough-shod through the science journals. Oh how they laughed: What? How ridiculous... the continents were once part of one giant continent..? And now these plates are responsible for God's work, the mountains -- and his wrath, the volcanoes and earthquakes? That's just preposterous right?

Well, I'll still laugh despite the huge unfunniness of it all, when The South (Bible Belt = Fundamentalists = Conservatives = Bush Supporters) is two thirds under water. I'll be sitting pretty in Las Vegas for a while at least. I'm sure it'll take a few years for the glaciers to come through this valley.

M0NEY- always follow the money trail- if it's a problem it needs more study (more grants, etc.).
If it's not a problem, it needs more study (more grants, etc.).

Remember the hole in the ozone layer? It's getting better- yay- so science fixed it.
Interestingly the Chinese ( and others) still use the problem gas (CFC's or Freon (TM) )- and yet the problem is "fixed".

A major corporation (that I will not name) had the patents on those "evil" gasses, but they were running out (but not in China)- AMAZINGLY they made NEW gasses that were safe- and patentable.

But those old "evil" gasses (which the Chinese still use) were so much heavier than air that Techs were warned not to vent them in basements- or they might die from the displacement of air. and the gas that they broke down into (chlorine)- that "killed" ozone- was used in World War One, because it filled the trenches the soldiers were in, suffocating them.

Which kinda leads to the question how they get up there to kill the ozone? And also to the question, if they are so bad for the ozone, why is it OK for the Chinese to use them? Do the Chinese have different physics? Or do they just allow the company with the patents to keep making money?

For millions of years the Earth was considered to be just a chunk of wet rock. Recently however, enviro wackos have started calling it Mother Earth as if it was a living thing. This started back in the 70s and corresponds with the recent rise in global temperatures. Because the Earth has now become transformed from a chunk of wet rock to a living organism (no doubt a warm blooded mammal), its body temperature has begun to rise and will eventually stabilise at about 35-37C. If we could get all the enviro-wackos to shut up, the Earth would once again return to being just a chunk of wet rock and the temperature would fall back to normal levels.

The panic is because we know the Earth has been warm in the past. We know that there are now about 6 billion people in the world dependent upon crops, water, and weather that requires stability. Nobody can predict the catastrophes that will come from even minor variations in climate, but we know they are all bad things when we evaluate our dependency on the current state of things. We have allowed ourselves to push the limits of natural production and natural environments with our continuous growth philosophy and population expansion. There is no safety margin for most of humanity when it comes to climate changes, regardless of what the cause turns out to be.

Global Warming is real. So are the past ice ages that caused
the extinction of the dinosaurs and other life on this planet in the past. The Human species is the most evolved to date and the
scientists, along with the historical data that has been gathered over the last few hundred years, is only trying to delay the extinction of Mankind through their own idiocy.

I believe that Mother Earth knows how to correct herself for any injustice that may happen to her. I have personally witnessed how the Earth can overtake any damage (houses, concrete, yard, etc) done by humans in 6 months overgrowing it all and splitting apart concrete and burning away the man-made landscapes. Totally mindboggling and amazing to a BIG CITY girl who thought that man could control all. This is not so. Do not let anyone convince you of this. Mother Earth is capable of reclaiming whatever she wants. She is all competent and takes her own. It is amazing to me that men think they can control her wants and needs by toggling the pollution switch or the greenhouse theory switch. She pays neither mind and reclaims what she will. She is a formidable competitor and more advanced at knowing what is needed than any Man could possibly solliloquize in any movie. Mother Earth shall have her own: be it by pandemic, Aids, tsunami, global warming, whatever, shrug, shrug, shrug, She will beat every human on this earth no matter if they recycle or not. She is all-encompasing. She is the be-all and end-all, We must loyally trust her judgement in her readjustments of the known landscapes.

Man has actually also contributed a lot to enhancing global warming. If nothing is done there will be more unexpected natural disaster such as floodings, tornadoes etc. Hope this helps :)

it's the chicken little effect. they have to come up with something to keep the research money pouring in. ever since the last ice age was over it has been warming, if not we would still be in an ice age , no? did the automobiles cause the end of the ice age? what did cause the end? maybe it's just the facts of nature, things change...

but a lot of it is because of mans influence ,how ever hard you wish that it wasnt, maybe there is a natural warming in any case ,but the fact remains that almost all desserts are a result of what man has done.
and industry and agriculture are very great factors that cannot be ignored.

Lester E Brown is the director and founder of the global institute of Environment in the United states .he has compiled a report based on all the satalite information available from NASA,and all the information that has come from Universities and American embassies WORLD WIDE ,
his little book Plan B has been trans lated into 50 languages and won the best book award in 2003.

he says GLOBAL WARMING IS ONE OF THE MEGA THREATS OF THE PLANET EARTH AND IS AN EFFECT OF GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL MISMANAGEMENT.

Clorofluorocarbons and gases that are released into the atmosphere by car exausts, non biodegradable materials
chief causes for global warming are the destruction of the ozone and excessive carbon production ,because we have so many cars and so much land is being deforrested.

the trees absorb carbon emisions ,which is poison to us and they produce oxygen which we need to breathe.

the sea does as well but this is limited to winter periods how ever if the waters also heat up ,the seas will absorb less than ususal and we create more and more

other reasons are the burning of rubbish especially tires and plastic, and the exessive use of aerosprays which release gasses these gasses built up ,and because we are a closed system (an enclosed package drifting in space)the trapped gasses heat up and produce the green house effect.

because of the green house effect and the desertification this planet is heating up
Each degree rise in temperature signifies 10% crop loss

DESERTIFICATION
the sahara is growing by 7 kilometres every day.
two major desserts in northern china are growing together making one giant dessert and, causing dust storms so making thousands of people refugeese

the planet is drying out at an alarming rate.

in the days of the dinosaurs this planet was under an aquiferus manta ,a mist that covered the entire earth ,and there were no desserts .
Count how many there are today, and all of them are as a result of mans actions.
the sahara used to be forrests
arabia ,irak ,iran used to be fertile lands in biblical times
Ghengas Kahn burned all the forrests here and filled the well with water and so turning vast lands into dessert.

Bad agricultural practises is turning vast teritories into desserts ,because of over grazing and the exessive pumping of carbon aquifiers ,the surface aquifiers already having been depleted.
And the use of fertilisers and heavy machinery that compacts the ground which raises the salt in the soil.
Modern agriculture today is doing the same as ghengas kahn but in much bigger territories.

it is a vicious circle of chain effects
more and more CO2,,and less and less factors that obsorb
and hotter and hotter.

AND AS A RESULT WE HAVE LESS AND LESS DRINKABLE WATER
WATERSHORTAGE
each year 70 million more people are consuming water but this is ,but a small part of what agriculture uses.

so our consumption of water is ever increasing and our drinkable water supply is shrinking because of polution ,and the production of potable water is less all the time because of deforestation.

we are living in a bubble economy and when the bubble bursts
food prices will sky rocket, and so will the price of water.

the wars of the future will be for water

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.

Green land and the south pole ,which apperantly has a hole in the ozone the size of the usa,are another matter.
this is ice above the sea ,on the land, and melted water will return to the sea .and so duely affect sea levels.the sea has been rising for a long time.

in California and Florida rising seas have flooded arable land that has been lost
so far only a few millions acres in total globaly ,but this will speed up with the increasing global warming.
And in Antartica arms of ice that even had names because the were so permanent have broken of into the sea.

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness

education on family planning and freely available condoms in schools (like they do in Europe)to counter overpopulation ,which has doubled in the last 50 years

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks ,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use
.
these are not only the opinions of scientists, but also of farmers and Environmental investigators

it may seem a theory to those far away in the cities ,but the people in Northern China will have a different opinion,as do Mexican and African Farmers.
