It shows we don't think in terms of words, but in terms of abstract ideas, which we later try to put into words. But for some things we still lack the right word. That's not so strange, really. It happens all the time. I mean how do you explain a blind person what "yellow" means?

Are you looking for a word to describe that situation? Try the following:

ineloquent
inarticulate
stumped
speechless
at a loss for words
inexpressive

For the most part, however, either the person has an inadequate vocabulary or else they are simply overwhelmed by a situation to the point of temporarily losing the ability to discuss it rationally.
