Sounds like a BS artist to me. Most guys that know Karate would get their a-- kicked by anyone with two weeks training in boxing. Call him out if his bragging gets to you, but make sure he throws the first punch. I've trained in many different martial arts, from an electic blend of jeet kun do and aikido, to bushido. I don't want to ever use any of them in a self defense situation, but it keeps me in great shape and it's fun to learn the moves which can take years of practice. Oh, and anyone that says they are a black belt and under 30 years of age, just ask how much money Fred made off of them. lol

Most people who have any real training in any legitimate form of martial arts do not go around bragging. That is part of the discipline that is fundamental in all forms I have had any dealings with. But, do not knock his block off, that could lead to future problems with John-Law! Just take some classes and invite your "Friend" to a sparing contest.

First of all, what belt is this guy!?!?!
If he's black then he needs to do a TON more tranning.
Anyone who goes around boasting about their skills does not know much about Martial Arts at all. It's just something you don't do.
It shows the person really doesn't know as much as he is trying to make ppl think he does.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I'm sure this guy knows a little bit Karate only, martial arts students are the most discipline student in the world, they,ve learn self -defend but more self- control, during their sparring when ever the judges stop the fight, they must listen to the order even they are hitting hard, this is one of the best way to control your temper.During sparring, they also learn how to respect the judges and their own opponent by bow to them for respecting or admitted their own fault.
they also learn how to set up a match plan that make you get used to per-planing every things not only martial arts, and lots more I can tell you later.
Believe me .Martial arts people are the best people in the present world nowadays.

I have been a Black Belt for over 2 years now. People at my studio know this, and my family, but not many other people do. I do not brag to anyone about it. One is taught that karate is for self defense not offense. So it is best to keep it silent until absolutely necessary, then actions speak louder than words.

Most folks that are trained in the martial arts do not brag about it in a social setting. They may write about it or urge others to do it, but they do not want to put a target on their backs for those jerks that think they can beat anyone. It could be your friend feels inadequate next to you. Let it go.

Yeah, you're not s'pose to brag abt it. Seems like he's got some probs. Just ignore him, coz if you're ever going to hit him first, well, one of 2 things can happen:
1. What IF he really knows martial arts, then he'll beat YOU up.
2. If he really doesn't know martial arts (or, if he does know, but choose to refrain from using it), then you've fallen into his trap of trying to get on your nerves, and enticing you to hit him first. Then, you'll get in trouble with the law.
Remember: whether you know martial arts or not, avoidance of conflict is the best way to go in this crazy country, coz you'll never know what can happen.

It sounds as if this person your talking about it insecure and uses his Karate as a security blanket.
Alot of people that are trained in Karate don't go boasting about their skills.

I train alot yet only 5 of my friends (the ones i dont train with) know I even take martail arts . Boasting I would say is a sign of being immature in both life and in martail arts. He probly hasn't been in a real fight in his life and thinks he knows alot.

There are two kinds of people who brag and boast about their martial arts skills the best of best who arrogantly feel no one can beat them and losers who wish they could be the best of the best. Don't pay him any attention!
