Standard poodles are very smart, like german shepherds. Most people who like big dogs say "yuck" to a mini or teacup poodle, but a standard poodle is a big dog - 50-75 pounds.
If you really don't want a poodle, but want a cool dog that's smart, with a good temperment, try a labradoodle. It's a cross between a poodle and a labrador retriever.

THE BEST DOGS?
SOME PEOPLE ARE INTRODUCED TO DOGS (family dogs) AND TEND TO STICK TO THAT TYPE..
all i know is i have had three German Shepherds, one was police dog, he is deceased, one was white shepherd shot by sheriffs, and now i recently lost another shep white to cancer, i have sable shepherd, and a chihuahua, i found, i have had a half wolf half chow (THE SMARTERST) i worked for vet for a while, and learned so much about many breeds, the answer is i have no favorite, i love all dogs (THJAT HAVE NICE PERSONALITIES) they all have magic, and they can teach you so much .. so the best is what you want , for looks, convienence, breeding, companion, protection, or curious, they will bring the best out in you if you connect with thjem , dog spelled backwards? THEY ARE ALL THE BEST IF YOU ARE THE BEST, GOOD LUCK

Depends on the type of house you live in, what you want the dog to do (guard your home and you, be chill and relaxed or run around like mad, etc). Larger dogs can be very territorial, yet very gentle. Some medium sized dogs can be territorial but not very intimidating to possible trespassers/burglars. Really, this question requires a lot more detail for a good answer.

A terrier of some sort, they are VERY smart, providing that they are trained well as puppies.
My friend owns a West-Highland White Terrier, and I dog-sit for him many times.
Eventhough, I'm more of a cat-lover, this dog is very intelligent and friendly towards everyone. They're a people-person dog who love attention, plus they are very cute.
If I ever get a dog, that would be the breed!

I had a boxer when my son was 6 months and i got her when she was 6 weeks. They(the boxer and my son) grew up together and she was the bestest dog ever. He was not able to learn to crawl because she would pull his diaper and make him plop down every time he tried, so he rolled everywhere. When he was learnin to walk she was always there for him land on. He could do anything to her and when she had enough she'd just lick him.
but hey the best dog is what u make of the dog and depends on what u want the dog to be.

I have two French Bulldogs. They have the attitude of a big dog that just happens to be stuck as a small dog. I love my dogs. They love attention and will follow you anywhere. My frenchies are the best! Visit my 360 to see a pic of my male Frenchie, Scooter. He's cute!

Teacup poodles, and Cocker Spaniels. I think teacup poodles are the cutest because of their size. I like Cocker Spaniels because of their colors. They can come in some really pretty tans and whites. And they have good dispositions.

German Shepards are my favorite, Shelties are very smart and beautiful, but shed hair. Rat Terriers are a one person dog.
