Parakeets are a tough bird to convert to pellets. HOWEVER, if you have more than 1 parakeet caged together, it is MUCH easier to convert them to pellets.
I have 2 parakeets and what I did was place 1 container of half seed/half pellets and a second container that had only pellets. If you have a pair of keets one of the birds usually dominates the food dish. The less dominant of the pair will eat the pellets because the dominant bird is hogging the seed dish. Once the dominant bird sees his mate eating the pellets, he'll have to try them too.
If that approach doesn't work, you will have to gradually cut back the seed and increase the pellets. It may take you several months to do this but DON'T GIVE UP. There is NO nutrition in seed, and you are doing them a big favor in switching their diet.
Right now, if you place 1/2 seed 1/2 pellets in together, the birds are going to ignore the pellets. But you will need to start with mostly seed and work the pellets in.
Try the method of placing 2 food dishes in the cage with one of the dishes filled with pellets and see what happens.

The pellet foods I sell have labels on the back with recommendations on how to switch over from seed to pellets. Use a pellet diet like Zu-Preem or one with an equal or higher nutritional rating. Kaytee makes pellets too but their nutritional ranking is lower. It is equally important to feed fruits and vegetables to the parakeets daily. These are good for starters: apple chunk, any dark green lettuce, any colored mild pepper and seeds. You can experiment with others to see what their preferences are. After the birds are used to the pellet diet, then you can add some spray millet occasionally but there is not much nutrition in millet. If the parakeets are about 6-8 weeks old, it generally takes about 2 weeks to switch completely to pellets. We feed our store birds only what I'm recommending to you. The pellet diets add at least 5 years onto a small bird's life.

In raising my chickens I even have chanced in this to be genuine and while talking with people who've greater experience that I had in this section i'm advised that seed is like feeding a new child candy. they choose seed over pellets and my birds dig out the pellets as nicely. Take the seed removed from the poultry and in basic terms grant it because of the fact the cope with it supposidly is and in simple terms feed it the pellets.possibly in case you weigh down the pellets this might help. i'm able to purchase Layer Krumbles for my chickens which i'm advised is all they choose. . it rather is obtainable in pellet form and overwhelmed form. . . they devour the overwhelmed form greater acceptable so that's what i purchase.

It's probably not a big deal - the seeds are what birds usually like, the pellets have the vitamins they need. Try to figure out some other way to give your birds their vitamins, like in their water, from a solid mineral block, or by feeding them fresh fruit and veggies (but know which ones they can eat safely!). If your birds are short on vitamins and minerals, you'll probably be able to tell from their behavior - they'll nibble on everything!

Birds will eat the things that they LIKE. Try picking out some pellets, and put only them into their trays. But make sure you keep an eye on the consumption, they need to eat something. Good like.
