Hos 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

God hated Esau because God knew Esau from the first Earth age.

Too many "Y's. Study God's Word.

I suppose God is jealous in the same way I would be if my daughter started calling someone else "Mommy". Because I love her. Yeah, I ask my daughter to make sacrifices in her life, to help her grow up. No, it's not about the meat it's about giving your best, read the passage again, Cain just picked up stuff off the ground, it wasn't his best crop.

God is jealous of anything or anyone you make more important than Him, He commands you give Him your best, it's called Agape Love.

So that we can see beyond the flesh.

God preferred Abel's sacrifice over Cain's because of the condition of Abel's heart. Abel brought over the best, and what he valued most. Cain brought the salad.

That kind of explains every sacrifice.

I'm guessing here, but I think God just wants to know how much you love him, for those who are aware of him, that is. For those to whom he has revealed himself, I should say. Yes, it seems insane, but that's my God for you. What a guy!

Ok, let me straighten a few things out. We don't know if God exists, anyways. And the bible and the torah was created by PEOPLE. Not by God. By people. And humans are naturally blood-thirsty. So, of course they would write in God loves meat. Cain and Abel......that's a different story.

That demiurge is not the real god, he's a phony god who was thrown down from the Pleroma and he suffered from cosmic amnesia. He thought he was the only god and sinned against the entirety by claiming "I AM GOD!" Do real gods behave like that and beat their chests? Of course not, that's why the Logos revealed the unknown god who isn't into war, blood, human sacrifice, and other such abominations. Have you noticed that the phony god is not around anymore doing his evil? Yes, the father's holy angels took him away to heal him.

People use to sacrifice lambs and goats to show God that they loved him. But Jesus died on the cross so now we don't have to do that anymore. God loves us very much and when we don't pay attention to Him like we should he does get jealous. If you had a child and they didn't want to spend anytime with you at all and they spent all their time with their friends, wouldn't you get jealous, if you loved your child with all of your heart. All that he did for everyone wasn't enough for some people and it does make him upset.

I'll answer the actual, primary question.
God called for sacrifices as a payment, so to speak.
It's not that He would gain from it, it's that we would give up something important to us. He called for the finest of the flock or the finest grain.
It was something people of that time treasured and they had to give it up.
It's a sacrifice. Put in their position, take the one possession you treasure most and destroy it. That's what it was about. A "payment".

I think you realize that we have to take these stories for what they are. . .lessons.

Some people need very basic lessons in order to function in society, and others can move ahead to bigger responsibilities.

The stories you chose are the most fundamental lessons. . .respect God, parents, don't lie, etc. . .

Once you get these lessons down, you can understand that God doesn't want us to eat meat, kill, or fear him. But the thing is, unless you can add and subtract, calculus is impossible.

because priests need to eat. They wrote the bible. Its that simple.
Now I like a world with poetry metaphor and life lessons to pass on to generation to generation. Think of it as supporting the arts.
Whats wrong with though shall not kill and love thy neighbor. Its true isnt it.
