As much as the government wants! Sucks and though I can't put an exact amount, I think it's a lot since there are hidden taxes in everything-not just the paycheck.

those are just your withholding taxes - how much of your check goes to your house payment and the corresponding taxes - what about your weekly fill up at the fuel pump( i think its like 41 cents a gallon here) how about sales taxes during the week for lunch and non- food groceries - do you smoke - egads - telephone bill has taxes on it - pay any highway tolls - taxes too

If you drive a truck , I'll tax the street
If you try to fix it , I'll tax the seat
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

'cos I'm the TAXMAN ohoh the TAXMAN
excuse me sometimes I break out in spontaneous song

That all depends on what state you live in and the amount of money you make per paycheck.

Nearly everyone pays 7.65% combined Social Security and Medicare, which is matched by your employer.

For 2006
Additionally, for Federal Income Tax (FIT)
Single with 1 exemption pays approximately
@ $ 20,000./ year 8.75% + 7.65% = 16.40%
@ $ 30,000./year 10.80% + 7.65% = 18.50%
@ $ 50,000./year 15.40% + 7.65% = 23.10%
@ $100,000./year 20.85% + 7.65% = 28.50%

Since you did not mention your state you may use the previous answerer's reference to calculate that, if you pay state income tax, some states don't.

If you live in NYC - sorry - you get to pay the city, too.
