I think that Pugs and Pomeranian are really good with kids. I have a 13 yr and a 7 yr old. The dogs actually wear out my kids, but they are also good lap dogs. They will be calm at night when the kids are in bed. The pugs do shed, put the pom doesn't. The pug will snore and the pom will love you and follow you all day if you let it. My 7 yr old sleeps with the pom at night. Both are great guard dogs. They are very protective of the kids. Great family dogs.

I've been working with dogs my whole life and I'm very familiar with most (if not all) breeds. The best dog for a kid would be a pug. They have great temperments. They naturally love kids. They're a hardy little dog that can take alot of kid handling. They're known as "little clowns" and "little big dogs". They're the only breed that can make actual human facial expressions. Pugs demand to be the center of attention....they'll find comical ways to make that happen. They make a great companion for kids as well as adults. The only bad quality about a pug is they tend to be heavy shedders all year round.

german shepherds are the best but thats not a small dog. mine is 5 and there is 5 kids in the house maybe you should try one. i also got a chihuahua but they can be a lil fisty. anything that you train should work out good with kids

pugs.......mini-dachshunds....I know that boxers aren't small but they are great dogs for families........check the AKC website...they have lots of info on dogs....also any search engine will work
