I just got back from a tournament. many of my friends are black belts. I usually train with them and take everybodys advise cause u can never have too much advise when it comes to sparring. I personally don't watch their eyes cause that distracts me from what might be coming at me. I watch which direction their waist moves cause I can usually tell whats coming at me, that's just what I do. I also would try tricking ur opponent by throwing a few lower kicks so that when they expect a low kick u can score with a higher kick. It might seem that it would be obvious but trust me, it works. good luck at ur tournament.

First thing is first - remember to breathe, stay relaxed ,stay light on your feet, LOT'S of Axe kicks most schools never train for defense against axe kicks, kick them on top of the head or slap them with the bottom of the foot then immediately follow up with a round house to the body or head ,Keep your hands up to protect your head if your sparring in a brown belt or higher division kicks to the head are going to be coming at you alot.NEVER take your eye off your opponent always make eye to eye contact even when sparring. Good luck

first of all JAY is WRONG about TKD!! TKD is not a diluted form of karate..its stronger than karate..
the only way to win in a competition is to have a strong mentality..
frm my experience(for ur info i got silver) one usually gets intimidated after being given a few knocks, this leads to a drop in spirit and also an increased number of times being hit..
u should also keep in ur head that the one that can withstand the most pain wins ultimately..
good luck for ur comp. i think technique wise u should be ok given ur rank...wad matters now is ur MENTAL POWER!!! GOOD LUCK!!dont lose face for TKD!!
