a few blocks before you get home he starts telling you this story and when the car is finally there he keeps talking and talking. You want to say thanks and good night but he keeps on with his story for a few minutes.
What is a good way to cut a person off without sounding impolite?

Now dad is mad, he thinks I should have jumped out of the car immediately and that my neighbors will start spreading rumors about me, GRR

Dad says a decent lady would just jump out of the car, this makes me really mad.
I have no interest in this guy.

Ask a shocking question, like, Do my breasts look big? Just kidding. You should say, Sorry to cut you off, but I have a turkey in the oven and must baste it. As you're getting out of the car, yell back, Thank you for the ride home.

I think that you were just being polite. Older people really do like to have someone listen to their stories. You could've said well, I am late and better get in before my parents come out here. Thanks for the ride. It was nice talking with you. Smile and shut the door and wave.
(I hope this person was not a total stranger or your parents should be upset with you) :)

Excuse me, but I need to get into the house to do my homework, nightly exercises, checkbook, whatever. It doesn't need to sound rude, but you need to distract the person to end the ride and conversation. Thanks very much for the ride, have a great evening....nite!!!

And off you go. Dad could've come out to see what was going on too. I don't think he could be really mad, but at himself. Forget the neighbors, they always see things a different way anyhow. Perception.

Don't take rides from "some old guy"? Older people sometimes don't know when to stop talking. maybe there aren't enough people to listen to him at home. If you take a ride from him again, just open your door when you get there, and then explain that your parents are waiting on you and you don't want them to worry. That should work.

slowly open the door, slowly get out, slowly close the door...hopefully he'll get the point...otherwise just cut him off and say something like your dad is waiting for you...(yep, what would we do without dear old dad...)

Or if you're feeling guilty just think that if you don't take charge now, he'll keep on doing the same thing...
