I'm currently in the market for a digital camcorder that records onto DVDs and also offers the ability to take stills at high resolution. I've seen several different models, but have encountered very few people who know much about these devices. Can anyone give me a good recommendation for my pending purchase?

The camcorder is going to be used for annoying parent purposes. First baby, lots of stuff that'll need to be recorded: family at the hospital, first steps, all that jazz. The camera/stills side is basically to replace my broken digital camera.

OMG the guy above me has to work for camcorderinfo.com. but it is a great site and i love it. depending on what your going to use it for, dvd and minidv cameras are often the best choice. so if you get this could you add details to your question about what its for? but i think that for the extra money you pay to get a camera that takes stills as well, its better if you just went and bought a separate digital still camera that (usually) takes better pictures. that is, if you dont mind lugging two separate things around at once. but if ease of transportation is more of a factor for you, then go ahead and spend the extra money. its all up to you. ill get back to you on the dvd camera as soon as your details are up.
