Vinu, there is no way that protien can be converted to fat. Protein is made of amino acids, none of which have the six-carbon ring structure that is necessary to make fat. Carbs, which are just many sugar molecules strung together, are very easily turned to fat, but protein, no way.

actually no....whey protein is mainly for building muscle because it's absorbed very fast by the body (roughly 30min to an hour). that's what makes it such a good choice for before and right after workout.

if you're looking for a meal replacement, you'd probably want something other than just whey protein (which is pretty much all protein and nothing else). if that's what you want , then get it. you can go to bodybuilding.com and search for meal replacements if you want some actual 'meal replacements'.

btw...if you mix it with milk, then it should be ok...milk contains protein that lasts longer than whey. but you definitely can't live on these meal replacements or whey protein shakes....but taking these as a snack 2 times a day is perfect.

Do yourself a favour and find another health store. Whoever told you that whey protein is a meal replacement is cluelessly stupid. A healthy meal needs to be balanced in what nutrients and vitamins it provides to your body, with protein being only one of many nutrients found in a good meal.

When you go out shopping for a MRP (meal replacement) search for a shake that contains a good mix of protein, carbs and small but healthy amount of fat. If possible, talk to a health care professional in order to find out the best shake for you. Last but not least, make sure that it contains a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals also.

Whey protein is something that is taken to gain more muscle, but it is NOT a meal and it can never replace a meal. It is not a substitute but a complement to a good meal.

Whey protein is pretty good, especially the more simple mixtures. Doesn't have all the sugar and additives that many "meal replacements" have. You can blend it with fruit juices or low-fat milk and flavorings to make it more like a smoothie or milk shake. If you get a plain type, or just a vanilla, you can easily create a wide range of flavors.

A lot of brands don't blend all that easily, but some brand are good (I like Muscle Factory , "Factory Whey")

All of the above answers are correct in their own way. Yes whey protein by itself is a horrible MRP. But when combined with other ingredients it can be far better, cheaper, and healthier than purchased MRPs. Most commercial MRPs are built upon whey protein.

My advice- get the whey protein, mix with oat flour (or oats that have been ground up in a coffee grinder), add a tbsp. of peanut butter, and some ice cubes and blend well in a blender.

I would suggest that you try either Ensure (or Boost) or Ensure Light (or Boost Lite).

Both of these products contain all of the essential vitamins, minerals, proteins, fat (yes, your body needs it) and antioxidants.

In fact Ensure is what many hospitals use when a person is unable to eat and must be fed through the gastrointestinal (feeding tube) method.

The only difference in the two products is that the Ensure Lite (or similar name) has less calories than Ensure Regular. Ensure Lite contains about 290 calories.

While I like health food stores, remember that they exist to push their own products, not what may be the best product for your health.

Good luck.

Ensure. Pop the can and swig. Simple. Effective. Balanced. Stay away from health food stores...they're all just trying to make a $. Talk to a qualified nutritionist. After all, hospitals all over this country give their patients Ensure.

NOOOOOOOOOOO. You are not supposed to take excessive protein uless you are really in to active sports or resistance training.

See, excessive protein intake without doing work out will add the work loads to your vital organs like kidneys. Morever, unused protein will get converted into fat . That will add your fat content too.

So, please keep away your whey protein bottle!

If you are looking for a good meal replacement shake, I would suggest those by Arbonne. They are all natural products and work great.
