I am against illegal immigration and think we need to stop it. I think we need strong border security and enforceable penalties for the employers. If I had that, except for the gang/nasties, though, I'd legalize those here but NOT allow an additional preference to bring in family. Family would have to come in under existing quotas. Partly I'd do this because we did let these folks get unreasonably settled, and partly I just couldn't face the kind of human tragedy that I am sure would result with mass deportations. And yes, I think the adults amongst them bought it. But even so...

However, total numbers are key. I would kill any forward increase in immigration until the border were secure and employer databases were up so that employer sanctions could be enforced. Even then I would want the employers of the new guest workers to pay impact fees for local schools and health care, and would want the numbers of all (including dependents) to be carefully thought through in terms of how they would impact education and health care for our own citizens.

Pay your own way

Respect others and be responsible for your children too.

Help all who need help and don't expect things are owed to you'

A secure border-we need to fix things here. No Amnesty-reform the law so "all" have a chance . Deport them-they came in wrong.

I want the laws of the nation to be enforced, I think the problem could be handled real easily, arrest the people that does the hiring, put them in jail. Fine the company's that have the illegals working for them enough that is not worth it to hire them. I think the word would get around and there would be no jobs here unless you were legal. This would force the illegals back home at the least amount of expense, I would let them from their side of the border apply for reentry into the country legally. Then and only then will they be welcomed.

I think illegals should be given a chance at citizenship... years back Reagan offered amnesty, but honestly, illegals aren't the most forthcoming folks, they fear deportaion, and get abused in amillion ways in this country. I definately think we should create laws to protect them as human beings though. I'm not so sure we make a bigger issue out of this than is neccessary though. Mexicans ain't never commit one act of terrorism in this country, so I don't have a problem with them.

truthfully i think that people are prejudice and ignorant about this issue, most are ready to lock them up or send them back without batting an eye, when in truth their nothing but hypocrites... How in the world do you think we got here. Most of the people living in America today are immigrants from other countries, our ancestors came over on ships, destroyed most of the true cultures and the only true people who deserved to be here which were native americans, anyway my point being we came to america for freedom from oppression and for new oppurtunities, and so are other immigrants today. Sadly the citizenship tests they give most immigrants even the most patriotic american couldnt even pass. So what do I think about this issue, who are we to say who should be allowed to stay in this country or not because we were just like them once, and they are just looking for the same thing that we once sought... so why judge others and tell them that they arent allowed to seek freedom... If your so damned concerned about putting them back where they belong (not the person who asked this questions but those of you who said some pretty demeaning things about immigrants) then whine to the g*damn government about it... we have are noses so far up Iran and Iraqs *** that we arent dealing with our own issues... okay sorry im done with my rant

Everything that people are suggesting will not work, because NAFTA has destroyed the Mexican economy, it has pushed the farmers off the land, they can't compete with the subsidized American farmer, and it will get a lot worse because the same thing is happening in South America, plus the Mexican wages have also gone down. You can read more by typing in ( Mexican Wages) and reading the first one about NAFTA. Unless Mexico and the United States dose something, their will be millions more coming, they are desperate for work.

Militarize the border. Jail people who hire illegals. Cut off all welfare. Round them up and deport them. Put a hard cap on all immigration of 100,000 a year (more generous than almost every other country in the world, especially Mexico).

That would easily and quickly solve the immigration problem in this country within one year. Cost would be minimal.

The results would be an immediate and drastic reduction of all crime in this country, particularly violent crime (nearly 1/3 of all violent crime in this country is from illegals....near 100% in many aread). Our economy would boom (illegals are a HUGE drain on our economy). Threats of terrorism would become almost non-existent. Healthcare would once again become viable in many areas decimated by abusive immigration. Quite frankly, the standard of living of almost everyone in the US would rise dramatically. This would be especially true of poor blacks. Absusive immigration impacts them most of all.

Seriously they need to obey the law. They are not here legitimately, they should leave. If they don't leave they should be deported, that simple. Those that argue you can't deport 11 million are don't understand that you don't have too. They hold jobs illegally, if they couldn't get those jobs illegally they wouldn't be here. So its simple close down the illegal labor and problem solved.

For them to face justice. No amnesty, build a comprehensive wall with beefed up border security and set up a reasonable process for immigrants to become LEGAL citizens. Also, make the crime a federal crime, not a misdemeanor and enforce it more strictly! This is national security; not racism people!

Give them the same opportunities that all great great grandparents had.

Italian, Polish, Irish etc. came over and called this place home. Most are trying to live a better life and should be given the chance.
