hi, if u wanna format ur hard drive then u need to put in the drive name i.e c,d etc to get the specified one formatted.

Lets try it out once again,

first insert the boot disc, i dont know whether it is a floppy or a cd, if its a floppy then u will be prompted to A:\> later and u can work from there, u need to boot ur comp using the boot disc and not by going into the windows and then using the dos prompt. I hope that u know how to boot ur pc with the help of boot disc.

u need to proceed in the following manner:-
a:\> format c:
then it will ask u whether u are sure and all
u just need to keep 'Y', then ur C drive will be formatted.

then u need to install win98 with the cd that u have got. Remember the cd drive will be shifted one position back wards when u boot ur computer with a boot able disc. i.e. if it was 'f' drive previously then it must be 'g' drive now. Dont know why it is so but it is so.

it will be

a:\> g:\
g:\> setup

and this is it then the windows installation process will start and u can handle it on your own as it is an easy process.

cheers

all the best

If you can't read from drive e: (I'm assuming that is your CD rom drive) then you may have a faulty cdrom. But you should still be able to format the hard drive with just the boot disk using the format command. For help on the syntax type a:\format /?

Have you considered your e drive is not working at all, you may need to replace the drive first.
