Star shaped pasta is called "stelle". I make chicken and stelle soup all the time. Kids refer to it as chicken and stars.

Pastina is italian for "tiny dough" .
If you look closely, they're in the shape of a five-pointed star.
Pastina is made with egg.

Also,
Stelle (stellette), smaller even is Stelline. Small stars with a hole in the middle.
