Does it hurt them? My 7 month old chihuahua is biting the hair off his back legs and I can't get him to stop. I was wondering if one of those things would help.

Elizabethan-Collar. You can get one at Petco, Petsmart, or any other large pet supply dealer. Your veterinarian also can supply you with one. It will definitely prevent him from chewing on himself, but you probably need to find out what is causing him to be so itchy. Since it is summer time, I would check him for fleas and/or allergies. To check for fleas, place your dog over a large white sheet of paper or poster board. Rub your hands and fingers briskly back and forth deep into your dogs fur for about 1 minute (especially near the top of his tail head). Remove the dog from the white paper, and see if you see any black specks on the paper. If you do, your dog probably has fleas (even if you don't see any). Also make sure you wash your pet more frequently in the summer time to get all of the pollen and dust that settles in the fur to help prevent allergies.

Good luck with your dog.

Elizabeth collar is what it's called... I'd put a product called bitter apple on the problem areas to see if that helps. It may be a nervous habit. When in doubt, see a vet is what I always recommend.

It is called an Elizabethan Collar. They use this because they don't want your dog to touch the injury that is trying to heal. I know, it looks weird but it doesn't hurt them. It is to protect them.

It's for dogs that can't hear very well - it funnels the sound into their ears.
