Forgot to say I had tried the drops, and a few other things like spraying pine-sol on the floors( it worked once before) not this time, also tried the skin so soft thing, and it did help some, I think Ill try the salt thing, still any other ideas would be appreciated, and Grtting rid of the Dog isn't an option to the ones who told me to do that, she is like family. Until 4 months ago we had not had a flea in our home for 5 years ( naighbors puppy gave them to her). Thanks for all of the help!

Put salt on your carpet and in the dirt out side. Get your dog some advantage from your local feed store or your vet.

Sister Cool is right in that burnt motor oil will cure mange. Unfortunately, chemicals in the oil are aborbed into the skin and the dog will have liver problems in the future and die.
It will not kill fleas.
Keep vacuuming. After vacuuming, sprinkle 20 Mule Team Borax (Boric Acid) on the carpet. Get one of the flea spot on topicals. The vets carry Frontline and Advantage. Just as good and over the counter is Bio Spot.

Had the same problem. You have to start medicating your dog BEFORE flea season. Once they have fleas it is impossible to totally get rid of them this year. You have to keep dogs from getting them in the first place. This year I started the flea meds (Advantix 9) in March and so far no fleas. I had tried the flea meds before but the vet explained that you have to do it before the first flea. I plan to medicate him year round if the vet says that's okay.
As for the house......Had that too and was so bad they started being in bed with us and our dog doesn't roam the house. You have to get the exterminator in to de-flea your house and then vacuum every day for a week, throwing the vacuum bag out after each vacuum, and then vacuum every other day for a couple weeks. What you are doing is sweeping up dead fleas and then after each batch is born. The exterminator told me that the spray kills live fleas but not the eggs but it makes them sterile eventually.
Hope this gets you through it cause few things are worse than walking through the house and having them jump on you or sleeping with them.

The only thing that works on the dog is Frontline Plus. Need to use it every month!! Not a one time treatment.
Hartz and Bio Spot are all crap and do not work. They are cheap,
don't work and can be very dangerous.
For the house, buy flea bombs and use them every 2 weeks for like 2 months. Need to keep killing all the eggs and larvae. Make sure the bomb contain IGR products. This stops the life cycle.

When we had a severe flea problem I bought a spray made by Ortho from Lowe's or Home Depot. It was a huge jug. My husband sprayed the whole house even under furniture. This stuff destroyed the fleas and the eggs. Then you need to get Advantage or Frontline to put on your dog. Spray your yard too. Good Luck! I hope this helps

Ok, here's the deal. If you have an inside dog or cat, they of course can carry fleas and pass them between each other. THat being said, if your neighbors have dogs and your dog hangs around them, whether there's a fence between them or not, it can get fleas. ANd when you let the dog in the house, as you know, fleas. We had a flea problem. We got rid of it off the animals first / cats. THen we were able to get it undercontrol in the house. The cats were put outside and kept there and still they were treated almost everyday to make sure the fleas were gone from them before we let tham back in. We got a comb and combed them thoroughly to check for fleas. Keep the dog outside. Get rid of the problem inside. THen make sure you get rid of them off your dog on the outside before you bring it back in. Now, if you live in an appartment, they could be traveling on and between people.

the only thing i did not see you say you did was take the dog to the vet maybe he could give you a script for flea medication.
when i had a dog who had mange, i used old burnt motor oil, and sulfur for that, i don't know if it would help with the fleas on your dog.
good luck with your problem, maybe buy the dog new dog bed and try treating around the house outside, maybe there is something for that. ask the vet.

All thats great, but you got to flea bomb the house too, call Orkin or someone like them. You have to do it more then once, we did and after the second time they were pretty much gone. We had a problem like this at my house, it was really bad and when I say really I mean really. That was a few years ago after Orkin did their thing, since then no more bugs and thats saying something since we have a farm in the burbs, lol.

Only thing that works is getting the proper spray from your vet. You spray it on all furniture and especially baseboards where the female flea lays her eggs. You also have to spray your dog. Once the fleas are gone, get your dog on Revolution, the drops you put on the back of their neck

I am going to watch this question. I have been fighting this battle for years. They seem almost impossible to kill! The only thing is to try the advantage or front-line plus. They kill the fleas on the dog as soon as they bite them and if you can reapply on time each month it works. My exterminator told me to put common table salt on the carpet and it would kill them. I just can't seem to remember to buy it.

Try PetMeds.com and order the advantage. The pills or liquid applications work best for ridding your dog of fleas. Flea bomb until you can't no more! When you flea bomb, make sure that you take your pillows out of your couch. Also, I would target one room at a time.
