Depending on how many pets you've asked for in the past, it may explain their reservations in getting you another one. Their reservations may also lie with whether or not you take good care of what pets (fish) you already have. If you don't take good care of the ones you have right now you may need to work harder at taking care of them first to convince your parents. I don't know whether either of those is the issue without knowing more about your situation, I simply say that because they are possibilities.

Maybe the best thing you could do is quit bugging your parents about it. Simply ask every few months to let them know you still want it while being respectful of their wishes. I'm sure they'll be more willing to let you have your chicken if they see you are willing to respect their authority and wishes in the matter.

Also, I haven't really heard why exactly your parents DON'T want you to have it. Have they told you why? You could try asking politely why they don't want you to have one so you can provide us with more information, and then we can give you a better answer.

Not sure what you know about chickens, but they are about like rabbits. They crap all over the place. Also there is a chance your cats and dogs will look at it as a nice meal. I have done farm work and helped in chicken coops and let me tell ya, after that I have no trouble slaughtering and eating chickens.

So just to tell you they are a bit of trouble to raise and if your parents know this it might be very hard to convince them.

The best arguement you can put forth is probably that if it don't work out, it can always be a meal. You can aproach it from a raising food possibility.

I have two pet chickens that we got just after they hatched. I have found that chickens are wonderful pets, and much more interesting than "normal" pets. They have their own personalities and seem quite smart. I built a bed for them that is in an enclosed area that used to be a porch, that opens out onto a flat gravel roof. Out there I have built them a little house where they like to sit in the winter or when it is raining real hard; they also have a dirt box and love to kick and roll around in the dirt taking dust baths. They spend their days scratching aound in the gravel and when it starts to get dark they crowd by the back sliding door and screech to be let in. They have a bird call that when they get in the mood they start and won't stop, it goes something like "buk buk buk buk buk buk bu-KAAAK!" and this can get VERY loud. They have a routine that they came up with and they pretty much took over the back deck on their own. You have to watch out for predators, and I don't thnk it would be a good idea to go on a bike ride and expect it to follow you; they are very curious animals and will get distracted by every little thing and stop to check it out, so this would not work. The only real problem with a chicken is they have horrendous bathroom manners and will just as soon dump on you as look at you. So if you start cuddling with one you could all of a sudden hear a wet squshy sound and feel a warm wet ooze on your leg. They give no warning. I clean up their dumps and wash out the gravel and use the dump water on my tomato plants, it makes wonderful fertilizer. Last year my tomato plants grew to 8 feet tall thanks to the dumps from my two birds.

I have a cat and the cat is scared to death of them; as a matter of fact, one of my chickens has actually chased the cat if she dared to get too close. I have seen other cats with chickens and the cats seem to be very leery of anything that big that moves so erratically. To add insult to injury, the hen that chases the cat keeps trying to break into the house and if she can get in she knows where the cat's food bowl is so she will run through the house, leaving a trail of dumps right up the cat bowl where she gobbles down the cat food as fast as she can.

Other than the bad bathroom manners they are wonderful pets and many find watching them to be very therapeutic and restful.

You have not lived until you have been dumped on by a chicken.

i had a pet chicken. they are not as easy to take care of as you think. chicks are especially suceptible to heat and cold, and they can die very easily. They leave chicken **** everywhere, and it stains. Also when you go on a bike ride with your chicken there is a very good chance that it will get run over or eaten by a dog or cat. the ones you alreay have might even eat it.

Unless you have a farm, don't get a chicken until you have your own place.

I guess your dad is just a little freaked out from shootings within the past few years. He means well. Anyways, how old are you? 12? 11? Don't get me wrong, but I feel kids at these ages feel such a need to fit in with guys their age that they just HAVE to get the latest CoD game. Why the heck else is there such a prevalence of young, prepubescent kids online for such games? I tell you, the demographic for first person shooters has changed since Modern Warfare 1 came out.

Do some research on how the cost of keeping a chicken compares with buying eggs for a year and make a chart comparing your results to show your parents. Hens will lay with or without a rooster.

Chickens live in flocks.....so you would need more than one. Also, they can STINK!!! Ours are soo gross, ohhh and if you put the pen over grass then the grass will be gone and eaten FAST. Our 6 chickens can eat a 32 foot by 16 foot yard of grass in like 2 days. You could tell your parents it would provide eggs, and explain to them how you already know how to care for it.

I can give you plenty of reasons why they don't want you to have one...in this order--fear of bird flu, mess,it's an odd pet,it requires much more space than a dog house, and they consider it food...that's just a few reasons.
Now,if you want my help then you'll have to take me out to lunch if my advice works for you(guess what I'd like to eat 4 lunch)...okay?Deals a deal...so here we go-->if you don't already, then I suggest you do every single one of your chores on time and real good...clean after your other pets and don't neglect them whatsoever...be extra nice to parents & siblings...don't get in any trouble...do good in school...etc etc etc(you know how to kiss up to em-right?).Do that for a week or so...then on the second week--start to mope around like you're real bored & sad...but keep doing as mentioned above(the kissing up part)...answer your parents questions like you're so sad that you want to die...you know how to play the role,right..?The idea is-->you've been soooo good lately but something obviously is bothering you...when they ask what's up...that's when you tell em how you never stop thinking about the chicken!!!
You may have to wait 4 all the stupid bird flu hype to go away before they consider it....but just keep trying...kids are like salesmen(good ones too)because they are persistent & hardly take NO for an answer...goodluck!
