Sleep when the baby sleeps.
Don't worry about the house spend time with the baby.
"This too shall pass"
Best way to relieve gas [from my mom]... put baby on back and bend knees toward chest...
All of that and more has been good.. but the best thing I did when my son was an infant, was to hold him, cuddle with him and cherish him... all those expressions, movements and times are past now [he is 3] and will not come again, but I have the memories to hold on to......and that would be my best advise......

both my sister and my brother told me not to be quiet when the baby is sleeping. They told me to vaccum, watch t.v., turn on a radio. Why? because later when he/she is older he/she will sleep through anything. My son is now 14 months old and this advise is by far the best yet. He sleeps like a log! The only sound that has ever woke him up is a tornado siren!

Don't be too hard on yourself! Seriously, it is sooo easy to think you did this wrong or could've done that better, but if you love yourself, that is the best gift you could give to your children because then they will follow your example and love themselves, too. If you have a lot of guilt and negativity about yourself, they will doubt you, doubt themselves and question simple values like self-worth and confidence later in life. Second to that, best advice is to laugh a lot! Children need all the happiness they can get!

I too am a first time mom and the best advice I got was, Don't get too much advice. Too much information is overwhelming and all it does is confuse you. (that happened to me) Put your trust in 1 or 2 ppl and get advice from them Don't worry Hun, your instincts will kick in and it'll be smooth sailing and the next thing you know, you'll be giving out your expertise to some one who is probably in the same boat your in about advice.
Take care and good luck :)

If you get that frustrated with your child, put them in a safe place like a crib or playppen. They cannot be harmed from crying alone, but a frustrated parent can do so much damage to a child out of sheer frustration.

Forget about all the book and complicated advise. It is simple : when the baby sleeps, so do you! Don't try to follow normal "adult" sleep patters. You will end up grumpy and miserable.

Be nice to all who offer advise, and then do exactly what YOU feel is the best for your baby.

READ TO YOUR CHILD!!!! Literacy is so important, and starting early will build a good foundation for your child's later life. Even when your child is a newborn, talk to him/her and start reading!!! The child won't understand you for awhile, but you're doing GREAT things for your baby's cognitive development.

Don't worry about housework, you will have your hands full..This is part of a poem that a friend gave me and I lived by it.
Dishes, settle down,
Dust, go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby
And babies don't keep.
