This career is for me, I would never let a guys reaction to me being an officer put me off! I know they are not worth it just interested in why a guy would be intimidated by an intelligent women who can take care of herself and wants to make a difference ??? my personal opinion is if a 'man' is intimidated by a strong women then he isn't much of a man in the first place. Just making it clear that I will love my job just suprised as the reaction from some guys

Go for it! Yes there are some men who can't handle a strong woman. There are also some men who would worry themselves silly if they were with somebody who did a dangerous job. There are plenty of other men though, who can handle it, so don't let it stop you pursuing your chosen career. There are many reasons to not be a police officer, not being able to get a bloke is not one of them.

Realistically, though, you will find your social life affected by becoming a police officer. It's a large part of the reason I gave it up - the overtime, time away from my family and so on. It's why most emergency service workers generally hook up with eachother; very few other people understand the nature of the job and even if they do understand it, it's hard to like it. Just be aware that when you first start, you will be hit on by every male cop (and a few of the women too). My advice is don't sleep with anyone in the job in the first six months, that way you'll be able to figure out who's genuine and who's after notches on the truncheon. Police officers, like other emergency services workers are great people (mostly) - but they're under a lot of stress a lot of the time. There's also a lot of stigma attached to being a police officer, which will put off more people than just being a strong woman will. Having said that, I still know a lot of people in the job who have successful and happy marriages.

Good luck!

There are a great many men, the majority I think, who would be put off. Some of those because of intimidation, some because it's so stereotypically guy stuff.

Personally, I think the handcuff would come in handy... and I hate to fight, but if a girl fought better than me, I'd be humiliated.

That being said - good for you! It's a fantastic career. I went out for NYPD myself.

Every guy at my school knows I can take care of my self some guys r even a little scared of me but they all know I won't hurt them but I like this guy and when I act really girlish he doesn't even want to talk to me but when I act my regular tough self he likes me and wants to hang out with me. So now I just say if a guy likes u for something ur not it's no good.

You're doomed before you start. Ha!..."guys intimitaded by women". For this you think policework is for you?
To begin with..if a guy is 'intimdated' by a woman who wants to be a cop....forget it. He ain't worth having around. Hey...join the Marines. If hes afraid of you being a cop...what do you think will happen in that case?
Lastly...you don't belong in this business. Leave it at that. Period.
I rest my case.

KUDOS! I too dream of being one. I dunno, I like the thrill of holding a gun and just aiming it at thugs an' creeps. There are guys who do like girls that are tough. I should know.
