I don't know how to break him of this habbit, and it is getting annoying. I don't want to get rid of him, and I can't put him outside. Any ideas of what to do?

Have you taken the cat to the vet? Have you changed the type of kitty litter you use? If you stopped cleaning the litter box when you were pregnant (a good idea), did the person who took over do a good job? There are a number of factors that could be at work here. Have the cat checked out medically. If there are no problems, you may need to experiment with different litters while keeping the cat restricted to an area of the house where his behavior will cause the least problem. Use food rewards to reinforce the right behavior. Ask your vet for more suggestions. Good luck. I hope everything works out.

Your cat is trying to show you his displeasure. He used to be your little baby and now he has been thrown over for another - and the new one is noisy besides (in many cases). Your cat will continue this behavior until he feels better - and punishing him will only make it worse.

In some cases a cat or dog can sleep with his person and that can make it a bit better, but if you are like me and you co sleep, this will not be the solution. What worked with my cats was extra coddling, extra treats, letting them do things their way and making special time to hang with them alone. My one cat used to bring a toy and follow me into the bathroom, because he knew he would have a few minutes of undivided attention. My girl cat would sit on my lap while I was at the computer.

To stop the problem immediately is, of course the priority. I use an animal communicator to discuss problems with my cats, but honestly all you need to do is to sit quietly and calmly think at them. If you can do it with your cat on your lap and no baby around, so much the better. Tell him that you hope that he will stop doing this dreadful behavior - that you are not angry, you understand that he is angry and he has every right to be. But you felt sure he knew a baby was coming and now the baby is here, this is how it is. Tell him how very much you love him, but this habit of his is unhealthy for everyone else in the house and it is not acceptable. Assure him that you will, in return do your part and spend special time with him. We can all work together, but if you can not tolerate this situation, we can try to find you a new place to live. Then he gets a say - if he keeps doing it, maybe he can not tolerate the situation.

I use the communicator because she can tell me what they are saying, but the sending is so important - as long as they know that you love them and that you are trying to do what is best for all. I can give you my communicator's info if you contact me.

Peace!

He definitely wants some attention. You've probably only been scolding him and that's not what he's used to. You need to take a break from you baby (I know that's going to be really hard) and give the cat some affection and attention. He probably will keep doing it until you notice him. He knows he's supposed to use the litter box, but he also knows he's being ignored. I have a cat too and she will do ANYTHING for attention, including laying on the kitchen counter, which she KNOWS she's not supposed to do. Cats are very vain creatures, very unlike dogs who will love you even if you ignore them for years, and they need to get attention. However, if you can't handle it anymore, then you probably need to give your cat to someone else who has time to give to it. Good Luck! Hope I Helped...

I don't want to sound like an animal abuser, cause I'm not, BUT the only language cats understand is pain.

Everytime your cat voids outside the litterbox, smack it on the haunches (bum) while sternly saying " NO (name)!!!!" then immediately put him in his litterbox and lock him up in the room the box is in for 5 mins.

He'll get it eventually, and don't believe the people who say you shouldn't smack your animals, at the end of the day do you want your baby exposed to all the bacteria in your cat's poo? If it was a dog you could verbally train it, but cats are too independent and need "encouragement".

The cat just want attention, he thinks this is the only way he will get it, by being bad. After putting the baby sleep, spend some time pampering your cat, he will go back to normal. When he does not use the box, don't make a big deal of it, otherwise he will keep doing it to get your attention.
They are all babies at heart, ain't they?

As a cat person, I don't believe the "acting out" thing. He's a cat. Not a toddler.

Think of it in animal terms. There's a new "thing" (the baby) in the house and its in his space and taking up your time. If he's fixed then he can't (or wont) spray. So he poops as a means of telling the baby that this is in fact his house and you are his mom, not theirs.

make sure his box is clean. My cat loves a cardboard box (like from a case of soda) and put a blanket that smells like the baby in the box. He'll like a comfy spot and get used to the smell.

He'll get it eventually.

Doesn't sound very clean with a baby around.
And he's been doing this for more than nine months?

I cat-sat for my friends & on day one & two the cats went up & pooped on their bed. They were mad at them for being away and leavng them with strangers. I locked all the doors except to one room with the litter tray and they soon settled again. Here are two links about cat insecurity. Could be it's too noisy for him where the tray is now, they are shy! And punishing them does no good.

Your cat may be jelious of the new baby. Try adding another kitty box in another area and give the cat some extra attention. Talk to your vet for other suggestions
