It is common for dogs to shed after whelping. As long as she is not developing huge bald spots, she should be okay. She will continue to lose hair until after the pups are weaned. It is called blowing their coat. The vet can give you something for it if the hair loss is heavy, but my vet doesn't like to give it until the pups are weaned. I forget what it is called, but you can tell your vet the problem and he will know what to give her.

All bit**es blow the coat after giving birth. It happens. Mine are coated and look like crap about 12 weeks after birth. I start them on the "Hair On The Doorknob" recipe when the puppies are about 6 weeks. It doen't stop the coat from blowing, but the hair seems to come back faster and it is very nice coat!!!!

Hairy Knob

1 pound honey
1 pound peanut butter
16 oz Linetone or Pet-Tinic
1 pound Mirra-Coat

mix together and put in the fridge and give a tablespoon twice daily.
Works like magic!!!!!

You can put eggs in her food, i had a dog give birth to puppies and i asked my vet what i could feed her for more nutients, and he told me to feed a high quality puppy chow to the mom because the puppy chow has high nutrients.

Check with your local veterinarian, and he or she should give you either a special diet plan or a certain medication. Hope the fur gets smoother sooner!
