He is trying to appeal to his conservative base to save what is left of his party's chances for the house and senate this fall. It's lame, pathetic and truly sinister. Breaking out the 'bread and butter' issues with his party using this issue is extremely 'assholic' of him. I know you didn't ask, but on a side note, the right thing to do is to stay out of other people's business. As I have said time and time again-the 'right' in this country is so hypocritical. They want 'small government' -it's at the essence of their ideology-but yet they poke their nose directly in the root of all privacy. This is government 'in your face' or more specifically 'in your bedroom.' I am not gay, but I could care less where people stick their dongs. Another man's anus is a lot better place than the poor farm animals that endure raping by conservative right (hicks) that are affluent throughout middle America. And for you women out there-don't think your husband has never 'done' anything with a man. Chance are that he has and will never tell you. It is only human to be curious. You are seriously delusional. These are side anecdotes here, but the point is don't mess with other people's lives. God does not like that. That is his area of employment/expertise. Think realistically about the issue and how it applies in the world-just not how it bothers you. It's a reality that perceived social extremeties like this will prosper. It's inevitable. I know most of you hate that you share a bathroom in public with a person of color; but just like those rights became law so will homosexual rights. You can't stop something that is human. You just can't. Move to China then if you want to be so dictorial. You are killing democracy when not supporting people's rights in your own country. This is the real evil.

NOPE!! I hate the son of a Bush!! Before anyone starts emailing me...I am a disabled vet and I have EVERY right to dislike our president...For those who believe as he does, that's fine - just don't SHOVE your views down my throat, as I wont do that with you. I BELIEVE that the institute of marriage belongs to people who love each other. PERIOD. There was a time when our country OUTLAWED different races from marrying & those people believed just as strongly. Does it make it right - no. Oh and for those of you saying that marriage is sacred them why hasn't our president gone after the "religion" that allows men to be married to more than one woman? Most of the men in that religion go as far a to marry VERY young girls. Nothing has been said of that.
So back to the question at hand...President Bush is PROBABLY going after gay marriages for his polls, but he has proved through the course of his presidency that NO MATTER WHAT he is a conservative. So I say it is a toss up.

Why is the government in the business of marrying people, anyway? Seems like the government should offer anyone who wants to make the commitment a civil union or domestic partnership or whatever. Gay or straight, what's the difference? And then, since everyone keeps yammering on about marriage being "sacred", the churches could fight out who gets to receive the sacrament. That way, no one gets denied the rights of survivorship, or custody, or hospital visitation, or tax benefits, or any of the other things that a legally recognized relationship brings with it, and no one whose religion says "no way" has to offer the union.
Totally makes sense to me.
And I'm straight, married (in a civil ceremony), and have two kids.

Bush's approval rankings have plummeted with the aid of fact the final election - such a number of people who believed in his stated platform and so on back then, are growing to be upset and experience that the two he has no longer lived as much as what he promised/they predicted, or he flat out lied approximately what he would desire to/might do. The Bush administration and Republican social gathering spin portrayed the election as a landslide and significant approval of his first term, yet in certainty President Bush slightly gained a majority of votes solid. with the objective at first a million/2 the electorate did no longer approve. in case you spot that a majority of human beings in a undeniable communicate board (Yahoo Questions) are anti-bush, that is that the situation you're traveling is populated by ability of that fifty%. i'm useful there are places to bypass the place every person sings his praises and thinks growing to be gasoline costs, expenditures of interest, plummeting financial gadget. unlawful twine-tapping and long dragged-out falsely inspired wars are basically great.

NO, and I think as a nation at war we have more important things to worry about than gay marriage. If this country separates church and state they why do people's religious views about marriage influence laws that govern the equal opportunity to enjoy the right?

As American citizens everyone is supposed to enjoy the same rights and freedoms.I don't recall any limitations due to an individuals sexual orientation.Didn't Hitler try to "cleanse "Germany of those groups he found offensive. It is a very dangerous game to play with the civil liberties of society. If one sector is denied rights due to their sexual orientation where do we draw the line on freedom? What if someone decides all mothers should stay home and not work don't you think there would be a huge public outcry?
