is it already precooked and needs to be heated,
or is it actually being cooked?

could you just eat the soup from the can?

I eat soup and chef boyrde(not sure on spelling) from the can ALL the time. I have NEVER got sick. Others around me think I am sick though.

It's precooked and just needs reheating. Check the labels. Some soups need water or milk added. Some don't.

It's already been pre-cooked.

Enjoy your cold soup if you so wish! : )
