My cousin got in trouble for writing "f*ck you a**" on a peice of paper at school. Ever since then, he has been really sad about feeling bad words towards his mom. He told his mom that he has been thinking bad words about her. Such as the "b word" and the "a word". Yesterday, he told me he was thinking these words about her. However he does not claim to be mad at her and she has not done anything wrong. Why is he saying these things? Is it solely for attention or is this is way of dealing with naughty words? PLEASE HELP!

his mom is not a bad, foul-mouthed person. if you pay attention to anything you would know that these words are used everywhere: in television and other media and other kids at school hear them from their older siblings and then repeat them. So anyways, he suggested himself that he would like to talk to a counseler but please do not respond to this question so judgementally. Seven year olds are not babies by the way!

the shadow once repressed has a way of resurfacing. The person who does the repression ends up the most likely target. Its possible the conscious mind doesn't even know why. The problem is how repression works and how negative re-enforcement backfires. Don't worry too much, as long as nobody overreacts its just a phase.

Try to get him to talk about his feelings, and go look up projection,
and supression. On the other hand, he probably needs a shrink to do that.

First of all a child does as he or she sees
Talks like he or she hears.

So I would say he is not really certain what the words mean and exactly how to use them If he is using them in the correct sentencing, then his parents need their mouth washed out with soap.
Once they change the way they speak in front of him he will follow their directions.
Make them put a quarter in a jar each time they cuss and see how that works.

Personally, I think he might not associate the words with meaning, all he knows are that they are bad to use in language.

here is an example:

I'm learning french, after learning the word **** (merde) in french I was a little disappointed that in France, **** isn't considered a swear word. In french, it basically translates to "crap."

If you can pull some meaning out of that, look at it this way: your cousin has heard the words, and repeats them, not knowing their meaning in our society and that people take great offense to them. All he is doing is repeating things he hears.

I can't believe a 7 year old would know those words, let alone know how to use them. Time to get him in counseling and away from the kids he learns this stuff from.
