I tried speaking in gibberish like I hear people speak in tongues, and it seems impossible. So, it doesn't seem like a person could trick themselves into thinking they speak in tongues when it's just gibberish? Any thoughts?

if you watch the Star Trek episodes and listen to the Klingons speak, their gutteral gibberish is actually based on a linguistically grammatically-structured language. It's not just random made up croakings. So what might sound like gibberish probably isn't. This is why if you try to just make something up off the top of your head it doesn't quite sound the same. Klingons wouldn't be able to understand it either.

"The Klingon language or Klingonese (tlhIngan Hol in Klingon) is the constructed language spoken by Klingons in the fictional Star Trek universe. Deliberately designed by Marc Okrand to be "alien", it contains many peculiarities, such as Object Verb Subject (OVS) word order. The basic sound (along with a very few words) was first devised by James Doohan for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. That film marked the first time the language had been heard on screen, all previous appearances of the Klingons being in English. Klingon was subsequently developed by Okrand into a fully fledged language."

in accordance to the bible, while somebody quite speaks in tongues there'll be somebody there to interpret what's being reported. the two somebody else from the church, or the guy speaking in tongues will interpret it him/herself. (If there's no interpretation, i might question whether it became quite tongues)  bear in mind that speaking in tongues and having a prayer language are 2 a number of issues.  A prayer language is once you talk in a diverse tongue once you pray, different than what you always talk. it is something it is complete between you and the Lord. that's the holy spirit speaking with the aid of you. Prayer languages do no longer desire an interpreter. i'm a Pentecostal and that i do no longer talk in tongues. this could be a latest it is given by ability of the lord to 3 those that have been baptized interior the holy spirit. I do even however have a prayer language that I talk each now and then. it is not something I do in front of human beings...that is often accomplished one on one with the Lord.

Gibberish is not speaking in tongues! I can't believe people think that, it's so silly. Speaking in tongues is simply speaking a foreign language, correctly. It is not gibberish and I haven't heard of anyone actually speaking in tongues since the new testament. I've heard of whacko's who rant in gibberish and say they're speaking in tongues, we've all seen them on TV, railing all about and talking gibberish then being "overcome" and passing out, but they're obviously very ignorant or mentally unbalanced. The apostles didn't speak gibberish, they spoke foreign languages they'd never been taught.

Well it depends. When done from the pulpit, scripture clearly says that if someone speaks in tongues that there must be a translator, otherwise it's fake..

So, yes, I think people can speak gibberish....

Tongues is not jibberish. It's speaking a language you haven't learned- be it of men or of angels

It's possible but the scary fact is speaking in tongues is a spiritual language given by God by way of the holy spirit. You can't fool God.

I think the ones who spoke in tongues where the apostles on Pentecost. I don't think we are supposed to do it or are capable of it. So, yes, I think it is possible for some to convince themselves that they are speaking in tongues when in fact they are not.

I think you just said it "trick themselves". Why would they want to?
I have been around tongues for 16 years-I have only seen phoney stuff. I do believe in the spiritual gifts, but all I've seen is is false.

no plum you cant fool "god" but priests sure can fool humans into thinking there is a "god". they don't trick themselves they are prepped by the church they attend. i saw a special on it they go through a series of preparatory rites before they are brought before the congregation to "prepare them for the holy spirit". i don't recall what these rights because i don't like to fill my head with bullshit. but it puts them in an altered state of mind.
