We treated the lice with a natural Tea Tree oil preparation and removed the eggs, retreated a week later, and I have checked his hair every second day since. No lice, no eggs, but he is scratching every day. It is winter here but I don't see much dry skin on his scalp. Any remedies to calm his scalp? Thank you.

FIRST OF ALL, EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEE ANYTHING, STILL CLEAN ALL BEDDING W/ HOT WATER OR DRY AT A HI HEAT FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES. SPRAY ALL FURNITURE AND CARPETS W/THE RID SPRAY. IT IS HARMLESS. I SPRAY EVERYTHING. DO NOT REUSE ANY TOWELS OR CLOTHING FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. IF HE HAS A BIKE HELMET AND HAS USED IT, SPRAY IT TOO! BEANIES, HATS, CAPS, SPRAY THEM. TOO MUCH SHAMPOO&COND, WILL IRRITATE . TRY USING MAYONAISE WITH A PLASTIC CAP OVER NIGHT, IT WILL BRING GREAT RESULTS, I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE. PLENTY OF TIMES. C.S.

Head lice---lice like to live and feed mainly on the head but can live about anywhere on the body. They can live off the body for short periods of time. In side a hat, On a pillow, On bed sheets and in clothes, They can even go thru a wash cycle, On top of that they lay eggs that are (glued) to hair stems. Many products can kill living lice and some there eggs but if you don't do the treatment repeated times and use the lice comb to remove the eggs. They can reappear. Remember you also have to wash the bedding in hot water as well as Hats and such..you also have to clean the combs and brushes your child uses and tell them not to share clothes and hats. As for the scalp being dry (itchy) the tea tree oil may have caused that. Try using a skin moisturizer rub it into the scalp and let it soak in.. On a weekend of course, kids at school might give him some flak about a greaser look. But I think it is good possiability he has a minor re infestation..And you probably would see justa couple of them. And just remember your not alone millions of children around the world get them everyday. and Mothers around the world think it's the worst thing that could ever happen.

When you treated his head for lice, did you treat everyone's in the household? If not, you could be spreading it back & forth.

Also, did you wash all clothing and bedding in very hot water, and what you could not wash put in plastic bags without opening for at least 2 weeks?

Did you spray every unwashable item (furniture, carpets) with lice spray?

All of the above is the only way to rid the house of lice--or they'll stick around for some time. I know this through experience.

I would redo his hair (and everyone else's), and do the spraying, washing, and plastic bagging asap.

I hope you are ignoring all the rude people. Head lice are just something that kids get from other kids. It has nothing to do with how often you bathe or how clean your home is. How about Scalpacin or a similar product that helps scalp itch.

I know this sounds crazy but it is awesome for dry scalp. Use a jar of regular mayonaise and put it on thick. Put a wet towel in the microwave to warm and then wrap it around his head until the towel cools. Repeat this several times and then wash hair. The fat from the mayo soaks in and it even makes hair a little silkier.

The child may still have it. When i was a kid it seemed like i couldn't get rid of it. Sometimes lil bugs can get under the skin. But perhaps the other answers are write and the tea has just irratated his head. It could also be an allergic reaction, i'd take him to the doc. to be sure everything is ok.

Mayo. Put mayo on his head. It's good her dry hair and the scalp. you can also use mayo to get rid of lice by wrapping the head up in a plastic cap and keeping it on for 4 hours. Try not to use it cold. :)

Could be dry skin. Maybe he has some type of dermatitis caused by the constant lice treatment. It's probably hard for him not to be paranoid about it for awhile and just scratch.

tea tree oil will do the trick. My husband has an itchy scalp for no apparent reason, we treat it my diluting tea tree oil with water, and mixing it in his shampoo/conditioner and leave it on for a few minutes.

Use Cetaphil, it's a non-soap cleanser. His head could be irritated and he might have a rash. Does he have any skin conditions? It could be atopic dermatitis. The more you scratch the more it itches. And you also said it's winter where you are, you might want to keep your heat lower and humidify the air. Go see his doctor.

Try some dry scalp shampoo or if he keeps doing it talk to his doctor about it, there might be some medicated stuff you can put on his dry, itchy head.
