How can i pick the best highlight for my hair?

I have dark hair and i would like to look different for when school starts what colors should i pick with a light brown base

you should only choose colors within two shades of your current hair color. you can go to to herbalessences.com and put your picture on the website and "try on" tons of colors and highlights. you can also gets shades recommended from experts and experiment with over 40 different hairstyles.

Go to a salon that uses Matrix Color Graphics and talk to them. We have a swatch book that you can take the swatches of hilights and pin it to the persons hair to let them see what that shade of hilight will look like on their hair.

If your hair is dark- I wouldn't go with too light of a hilight. I stick to a carmel color. The lighter ones make dark hair look like it is fake or graying. The lighter and the heavier you go the more up keep.

If you were thinking about doing this at home-try a hilight kit with a cap (NO BRUSH INS-Stylist use caps and Foils for a reason)
The hi-light kit should say for Drk brown to light brown or light brown to drk blonde-don't go any lighter than that. They have a tonning rinse in them for after the coloring process and if you don't get the kit for your color of hair the toner won't be able to tone out enough of the gold that is left after lightening darker hair.

for the base you should get light brown and the for the higlight you should get blonde.. i had that and it looked great!
