Definition: This is a cut shot sometimes called a cuttie, cobra, tip,or a pokie. Basicly you come up as if you are going to spike and at the last second you take power off the shot and hit the ball short.
Cuttie= a short cut shot
Cobra= when you put your hand and use only your finger tips and thumb tip
Pokie= you fisting the ball to pop the ball strait up
Tip=used when a setter "tips" the ball over in 2

If it is 'dinking over the net', then when you jump in the air and find 2-3 blockers block all the angles of hitting and too close to the net, you dink the ball over the blockers' hands and net of course. You can't dunk the ball like basketball, but a similar move will be you jump away up over the net and hit straight down inside 10-foot line. Some people may call it a dunk...

"Dinking over the net" is when you tip the ball over the net with your fingertips only. It is not a hard hit, though your approach to the net may indicate that a hard spike is your intention. Blocker goes up, defense sets for the hard shot coming at them, you go up hard and lightly tip the ball into the dead space between blocker and digger.

the term is "dink"
it is done mostly by a setter in the front row
similar to a "tip"
it is a softer tap that's purpose is to get high enough to get over a block and land in the open area just behind the blocker

dinking is when you look like your gonna smash it down into the other court but at the last second change to a soft touch that catches the defense off guard.

It is dunking over the net.
You dunk the ball when you can reach over the net and slam it down at your opponent.
