My chihuahua is two years old and still not potty trained. We are moving into a new house soon, and I don't want her to ruin the new floors that we are putting in; any suggestions?

I hate to say this, but get a crate. Dogs will not "go" where they have to sleep. As soon as you open the crate, pick the dog up & take it outside. Do not bring the dog back inside until she goes. Make sure to take her out after playtime, mealtime, naptime. If you are not going to be home, put her in the crate.

Don't use treats, your dog should behave because she respects you, not because she is being bribed. Put your dog on a food and water schedule, two or three times daily. Take her out side every two hours and directly after eating and/or drinking. But don't let her just screw around and play. Take her to a spot (on a leash) and repeat "go potty" over an over till she goes, when she does tell her "Good Potty!!!" in a happy up beat voice, then take her inside immediately. Only take her out for potty, and use a leash until she gets the hang of it, then she can go out to play as normal. Never hit a small dog like that and do not rub their nose in it. Dogs have a short memory and will not understand what they are being punished for. Keep her near you at all times in the house, when/if you catch her beginning to "go" shout "NO!" in a loud deep voice and pick her up and take her out side right away until she finishes. Good luck.

Buy a package of Wee Wee pads, and follow the directions:

Simply place Wee-Wee Pads (plastic lining down) on the floor near where dog is being kept. The scientifically treated Wee-Wee Pad will attract your dog when nature calls--and the housebreaking habit has begun!

When your dog's training is completed indoors, begin the out-of-doors training by placing the Wee-Wee Pad outside of the house Your dog will again be attracted by the Wee-Wee Pad that is outside. Within a few days, when the proper training habits have been learned by your dog, the pad will no longer be needed.

just smack it really hard when it poops on the floor... i thought a dog at 3... its gonna take time no matter what... and give it a treat every time it does it outside... lots of praise... but unfortunately, unless you send it to school or something, the dog is gonna ruin your floor...
