Nebula D, why are you so mad at everyone? I keep reading your answers because I wanted a dentist to answer my question on here, but I don't want You to answer it. I don't want your opinion anymore. You are always so angry - especially with the dentist's assistants that answer someone's questions. They aren't saying anything about you, so why do you need to pick on them? All they're doing is trying to help those of us who want a NICE response! If this website makes you so frustrated, why do you keep coming here??

I just read one about a guy that needs a filling, and you said something about people that won't keep their "f'in" mouths wide open. !!!!! That wasn't very nice at all. I'm Glad you're not MY dentist. Meanie.

Although he is sometimes very disrespectful in his comments about "us as assistants," he's a dentist. Try to value his opinion somewhat if you can. We all understand your point though, and it's quite alright if you don't want his opinion. Call your own dentist if you have one, and obtain the information you need there. If you do not have a dentist, you can call 1-800-DENTIST for a referral.

By the way, I read that response too, and I didn't think it was very nice either, but I'm getting kind of used to it. He attacks my responses nearly every time I post one. I try not to pay attention anymore. I just do my best to help you because there may come a time when I need advice and don't know where else to turn. And I do tell everyone to whom I respond to contact a dentist for the best advice regarding his/her dental health.

Why dentists get angry.

Dentist aren't trained to be nice. We are people too. We have good days and bad days. Some patients don't keep their mouths open enough to do good work. Just being the owner of a large tongue can be an automatic refferal to an endodontist, if a root canal is needed.

Dentistry is a profession that is constantly being devalued. All throughout dental school and academia we are trained that we are the best of the best, You are a Doctor (of dental medicine, apparently) or of Dental Surgury. If you do a crown this way it will last 15 years. Then you graduate and go into practice and none of that crap matters.

The Reality
The insurance companies do not value dentistry.
The Patients want to work within the scope of the insurance.
The patients don't act as if the ability to eat is a need,
They WANT the ability to eat, But the truth is they don't NEED it
They do need that simonizing on the bottom of the Ford Bronco though. LOL
Here is what matters
How does the dentist make you feel? Does he praise you all the time. Are you the best patient of the day. Did you know that dentist take classes to learn how to sell more dentistry? How to layout the chairs, where to put the posters, How the phone should be answered and so on.

95% of people think this way if it feels good it is right. So who is wrong? Some one who wants to give you the facts?
The Academians or the Antidentites.

Until a dentist accepts that maybe the 95% of the people are normal and that maybe you are not normal by expecting everyone to NEED they're teeth and the facts, you get frustrated, angry, and bitter of anyone who doesn't see you are right. Just because you have the education, does not make you normal or trusted.

I've found that all the dental terminology in the world does not help a dentist explain to a person why he needs this or that. But when I put things in terms of What do you want. Try to see where the patient is in terms of money, self image, expectations, and time.
Then I can generally give the patient what he wants. Rather than "here is what you need". I get a lot more reccomended treatment followed this way.

Just Remember, Sometimes a short blunt response is the best response. This board is a chance for you to learn about your mouth and the teeth in it. Why should anyone be forced to be nice, that is for the office.

Meanie?

Do you want to be verbally stroked and caressed on this message board? Or do you want facts?

Read the questions to which I have responded. Then read my responses. Then, if you've got the stomach for it, read the responses of others. Tell me whose answers you'd rather read when what you want is correct information.

While I may fly off the handle every once in a while, I do so because I get sick and tired of ignorant people answering healthcare questions as if they were authorities on the subject. There are too many people whom, because they suck spit day in and day out or because they have a degree in tooth scrubbing, think they know enough to offer healthcare advice to patients with legitimate concerns. People who don't have the good sense to know when they don't know and make it clear that their answers are uneducated guesses make me mad. They are being reckless with others' health, and that means that they deserve to be treated like dirt.

So, if you're a dental assistant or a hygienist trying to offer advice on health care topics about which you know very little, you are going to get a nasty response from me exposing why your answers reek of ignorance. You wouldn't dare do it in the offices where you work, although it is apparent to me that you would if you could get away with it. The fact that you do it here means that you have no sense of decency.

I will finish with this point: in dental school, one of the faculty members giving us a lecture finished with a power point slide showing the following text:

"The first kindness you can show your patients is competence."

I'm not here to be friendly. I'm here make sure that as many people as possible who ask questions about dental care receive accurate information. I'm also here to expose the derelicts who disseminate false information.

Actually, as a dental assistant, Nebula D, I give the same dental advice here as I do in the office I work in. The dentists I work with expect that from me & wouldn't want it any other way. I'm sorry that you don't trust those in your dental office to educate your patients...that must be a scary place to go. Good luck

He likes to blow out the candles of others so that his can shine more brightly. It's a pity. I'm sure he's a very smart man and is very good at what he does. He could really make a difference and help people out on this site (which I'm guessing is why he decided on his profession... so he could help people) but he's just making enemies... Oh well... Just keep reporting abuse.

Wow, sounds like somebody's pi**ed! I wouldn't want that guy working on my teeth either! I can just imagine him forcing my mouth open so he can work. OUCH...
