If possible, go to a professional to get your dreadlocks started off. It's possible to do it yourself of course, but I think it's much easier to have a professional do it. Still, if you want to do it yourself, for single twists you have to part the hair into the size of dreadlocks you want to have. Take each portion and apply some wax, back comb and twist the portion clockwise or anticlockwise as you like. Twist all your dreadlocks in the same direction i.e. all clockwise or all anticlockwise.

Most people get it professionally done the first time so that they will be neat but you can do it yourself.
You will need some new growth if youre AA. Wash and condition. Just start with small section of your hair and just twist it between your thumb and index fingers like you were making a clay snake. Twist in one direction and apply bees wax, or locking gel.The more new growth you have the easier it is for your hair to lock.No need for the two strand just twist a small section between your fingers. Need more help hit me up.

Twist small sections of hair, then while a section is twisted, crimp it all the way down with a crimping iron. This will keep it twisted in place, looking like a real dreadlock. This will work for curly hair in addition to straight hair. You may want to use some sort of fixative on your hair before you crimp the strand.

Go on some of the websites for the best do's and don'ts. My son has curly hair too and it's hard to lock. Use a good organic locking gel. You have to tie up your hair at night to keep them fresh. Sprints them before you tie them. Wear a shower cap in the shower. If you have a good professional do them up front, they will hold better. Also, expect to get them relocked once a month by the pro to keep them neat and healthy.

The traditional way to dread hair is... First find all your combs and brushes. Got em? Good, now throw them away and your conditioner will not be needed anymore either. Keep the shampoo. Now instead of combing your hair gently separate your locks with your hand. After several months you will have the Real thing on your head.
I would not do this for fashion. Only if you wish to separate your self from Babylon.

first depends on what u think dreads are ! alot of people get the names mixt up ,so if ur lookin for the jamacan twist like tangle thing or plats i dont know but if ur lookin for dreads which are a tight braid straight bac those r also called corn rolls and there are many styles and wraps but it dont matter which one u choose after a couple days if ur not wherein a wave cap or duu rag then of course its gonna flare out ,just be ready to fix it more often or peoples gonna think ur too lazey to wash ur head, remember dreads are a high maintenence style which i see alot are miss titleing styles,so ignore that crap, and the next time someone dreads ur head just pay attention ull catch on ,thats why dreads are cool cuz its a sign of constant care not for lazeyness

The best way to do this and get the cute fine locks is to go to an African hairdresser to get them to start it off for you. They twist little sections of your hair and apply a hair wax. You wash your hair regularly with the wax in and then they remove it. and your hair locks on it's own. This prevents tangles and clumping. If you do it on your own your hair will be prone to breakage and clumping.

dreadlocks are the result of unwashed, unbrushed, tangled hair...so that would be the best way to get them.. no offense anyone, i like dreadlocks, but was told this by a person with dreadlocks.. long ago.

if you want dreadlock all you really do is either twist your hair up or braid your hair or just dont comb it at all and it would lock up in dreads
