I'm not trying to be a smart a** or offend anyone. I'm very curious and I have a few Jewish friends and they don't even know the answer. You gotta think that way back in the day there weren't curlers or curling irons...

In orthodox families, a boy doesn't get his hair cut till 3 years, and then all his hair is sheared, except sideburns. I've seen boys winding sideburns on fingers or pencils to make it more curly, but also many people have naturally curly hair.

Have you ever heard the term 'Jew-fro?' It's not meant to be offensive, but it points out that if Jewish men were to let their hair grow long, it would be pretty curly for a lot of them. Still, if you want to have those perfect curls, you generally have to use other means. One very simple, effective way is to get your hair wet and then wrap it around a thin, round object like a pencil or a stick. Let it dry like that overnight, and then when you take the pencil out, the hair will be nicely curled.

If they have curly hair it is no problem. I remember my younger brother going to bed with rollers in his hair and taking it out in the morning so that it should be nice. He also used to use Dippity Do - a gel. Now that he's older he wets his hair and curls it. It may be easier with curly hair but they have to make sure that it doesn't get too frizzy and messy.

If the kid has stick straight hair it is a little harder. Some of them have it permed, or just leave straight (it doesnt say anywhere that it must be curly). Or they have to sit all day and curl lol!

my kids have my hair
straight sticks
so i take em some times to have em permed
wig shop lady does it and stays curly for a while
otherwise it stays straight and looks messy

most have a bit better hair
just use a little water or twist em right after a shower
and they sorta stay that way

Maybe it grows that way or maybe they have some special tool that they have been using for years.
