Hi,
Will my canadian wife be able to come live on base with me if I am in the navy? Do I just have to fill out paperwork for her so she can get a military spouse card? Has anyone else been married to a foreigner who is a USC and in a military branch? The reason I ask this is because I am young 19 and she is too and is pregnant with a baby. We both don't have jobs and everyone has suggested to me that joining a military branch would be the best option for me and her at this time and the best and fastest way to be together and make a future. I really hope someone can write back!

Thanks

If you're already married you should already have the paperwork in play for a visa for her to live with you in the states anyway. I don't know the specific proceedure, but my bro-in-law married a Canadian citizen right before he joined the Air Force and she moved with him to his first duty station. She still doesn't have everything she needs to work on post, but she does live with him government sponsored. Check with a recruiter for the details. Also, we've been in Germany for 3 years and I know guys who get married to local nationals all the time and as soon as they're married, they're eligible for gov't housing and benefits, they just have to do the paperwork to take their new honey home with them.

On another note, the military is great for benefits and health care, less so for money in pocket, but that can be handled through good management. You REALLY have to mess up to get "fired", or demoted which makes the job security great. Make sure though, that you're willing to take the risks involved with being a soldier/seaman/airman. There are so many good things they can do for you, but you WILL be gone for training, and there's always the chance of being deployed. Good luck in whatever decision you make.
